I managed to get out to one more track day this year (I don't own gear, my first track day included free leathers, but a friend had to cancel one of his days and loaned me his stuff...and his 14 S1000RR, which I declined because I like living).

A thought on this...the instructors are there to help you, but it is ultimately your responsibility to ride or drive within your comfort zone. You are far more responsible for mistakes they DIDN'T than those they did. I once again sat out the final session of Novice because I was feeling exhausted and I felt people in my group were riding beyond their means and it was making me uncomfortable to be around them. And once again one of those guys had a major off and left in an ambulance - hip and ankle.

Christmas shopping will include winters and gauntlets - I street ride with short gloves and mesh jacket and simply end my season when I get cold. Hard to find stuff for tall/skinny, I'll try Revzilla. I'm sticking to my workboots though, every pair of "race" boots make me feel like a power ranger and are uncomfortable on track to me.

Nice you got back out there Chris! Oh man, I would have had a hard time turning down the chance to ride the 14rr but I understand.

I don't take the new rider crashes personally, but I don't like my riders crashing AT ALL. At this point, I will have to be satisfied with a 102 fresh, new track riders w/ only 3 of them crashing their first time at the track with me as their coach. It's really not too shabby of a record really.

Try Cortech jackets, pants and boots. The cuts on their gear seem to be a bit longer than other brands. Also, have a look at the S-MX street boot line from A*. They are a bit less armored and thus more comfy without too much sacrifice in protection.

Good luck shopping for your gear!

Add a local rider and racer Mike to my list of hands shaken today. He came and picked my bike up to race at JenningGP this month. I lent it to a team of riders as the races are endurance races so a total of 3 racers will be riding it. I hope she does well for them.

They are pretty much set up nicely, bike, rains (on other wheels), dots, spares (bars and pegs) a bike that needs nothing aside of gas. And the only thing I ask in return... a few pics and a brew at bike night as they tell me the stories.

Lol,

Check this out! Something always breaks on me when going to the track. Yes... it was overdue for a change. New vortex is already installed for Feb.

I'll make sure they treat your #511 right

it is unacceptable for that bike to be ridden slowly

Yep, when strapping a bike down for a really long haul, I will put zip ties around the hooks in the drings to prevent the hooks from coming off even if there is much slack in the strap. HUGE bumps and potholes can do that ya know.

It's really only a big problem on street bikes heading to the track because their front suspension is normally pretty soft. Hit a big enough bump and the hooks come right out. Track bikes normally have much harder front suspension and handle the larger bumps without enough give to release the hooks.

Now, then there is the trailer. As pictured, the trailer is small and light. What if... you're cruising down the highway at 70mph and hit a very large chunk of tire tread? The whole trailer is gunna bounce... this is another time where the hooks in the drings may come loose on soft suspensions. So because the trailer itself is small, I double strap the bike.

The extra 5mins spent strapping, makes for a 11h haul without the added worry that the bike is gunna come off the trailer.

I have the pitbull restraint setup for a 250. Since the rear axle is not hollow like other bikes, you take the axle bolt out and put a cup on it and reinstall. While this works very well to secure the bike during transport, it really sucks to have to take back off before riding. I take it off because, unlike everything else pitbull makes, this little cup thing is easily damaged and will act as a slider in the event of a down. Once damaged, it will make it questionable to secure to the trailer.

For the 250 and other non hollow axle bikes, I wish they would design something that clamps to the swingarm or spools instead. Because taking the wheel off as part of the unload process totally sucks.

....is that the chain that wore out the sprocket you displayed Nov 12th?!?

I really enjoyed reading through this thread, Chris! Good luck in your pursuits! I wish I had the experience (and youth!) to follow a similar path as you: teaching riders best practices to go fast on our wonderful machines and sport!

Thanks Bill, it's been amazing... the people, the tracks, the travel, the food, the good times. It has cost me a small fortune, but it is worth every dime. It's my pleasure to share it with ya'lls.

As far as the chain/sprocket goes, nope... not the same set. The other set came off my track r6 . I knew it was getting close to time to replace, but it seemed to eat up that last little bit and break a tooth in less than 1 track day. Teched my bike that morning just like everyone else (passed), as well as looked over it myself. Maybe we missed it. I pitted out early to have a look because my throttle control felt sloppy no matter how much I tried to smooth it out. Soooooo glad I did or it might have gotten ugly.

If I may thread jack for a moment; there's a picture of a rider on exit (judging by tire squish) that is slid forward on his seat as far as possible!

Both teams and both bikes, the gent on the far is a ninjette member and friend of mine Jeff.

I spy some new rash... all racers are coming home safe though.
They had a bit of a low siding issue, not sure why. They've got you though. Your bike will be perfect when you get it back so you can show them how to ride it the way you do

Like with anything in life, it's what you make of your time that counts. It's nice to know that someone, somewhere out there is goofy like me.

@choneofakind - I am putting together a video and would love to see any of the goofy stuff I did while following you. Can you check your gopro footage please?

Thanks yo!

Don't hate me. I recently lost a computer that didn't have a backup...

Lost all my footage and a ton of pictures. I'll search around but idk.

I finally got my bike back from loaning it out for the JenningsGP endurance races.

The good!

The guys all came back home safe and sound and had a great time. The #511 didn't give them any problems aside of the issues they caused the bike. lol

The bad....
They crashed twice, both lowsides but the riders were not hurt and the bike crashed like a tank.

Parts list:
Clutch lever
Brake lever
Left clipon
Grips
Fairings have some holes that need patched up
Both rearset pegs
Right fork tube bent

They are providing the parts but I insisted on doing the work. Gunna be busy over the next few weekends. :\
