Gear matching Bikes
No, this isn't about matching colors. Say you build a cafe' bike and your gear is racing leather A-stars jacket, $100 gloves, and Shoei Qwest.
Would that guy look funny on an old school cafe bike? What about the guy with a Biltwell 3/4, Classic Perfecto, fingerless gloves guy riding a ZX6R?

I've never worried about matching my gear to my bike, but I buy rather generic black gear that goes with pretty much anything.
I think you can look silly if you wear a full set of brightly colored leathers on a Harley or a black fringed jacket and chaps on a Ninja. |

That depends on whether you give a rip about what other people think of you.
I have found that the older I get, the less other people's opinions of my appearance matter to me. For me, it's function over form. I would never wear a 3/4 helmet or fingerless gloves under any circumstances on any bike because they would not protect me adequately. Perhaps another question is in order: Is the rider who purchases, say, a Thruxton R (drool) doing it for appearance, or for functional reasons? If appearance, then it makes sense to go all fashionista on it. The attached photo is on my wall at work. Full Pilot leathers, blingy Arai, gauntlets... on a Thruxton. I don't think it looks silly.

My gear matches my bike in color and style, but it was pretty easy since I only have one bike and it's still my first bike. I probably look a little weird riding my girlfriend's yellow TS100 in my red and black street leathers though.

Me wearing full leathers on a city commuter rat Ninja is like sticking an aluminum wing on a Civic. You might think it looks cool, but we all know you don't go fast enough that downforce becomes an issue.
I'm going with the Icon 1000 Vigilante: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/i...gilante-jacket. I like the cholo vibe it has. Helmet-wise I'm leaning towards an Icon Alliance. @adouglas, that salt build up is retarded (awesome).

LOL...
But think about it this way: If that Civic were to go fast enough, downforce would indeed make a difference. If you crash your bike going fast enough, full leathers make a difference. And even a "city commuter rat" Ninjette can go fast enough. How fast do you go? Are you really at inner-city pace (e.g. 30-35 mph) all or most of the time? If you were to jump out of a van with your chosen gear on, how fast would it have to be moving before you'd say "no way?" Do you ever ride faster than that? Do you think the gear you choose will protect you if you go down at the speeds you ride? How much protection are you willing to sacrifice in the name of convenience and style? (e.g., Jeans? Sneakers? Short gloves?) These are the things I think about when choosing gear. Not whether somebody thinks it's ridiculous or silly-looking. My personal choice at this time and riding as I do is full leathers. That just doesn't work for a lot of people, for whatever reason. It's a free country... Hell, if I were to spend my whole commute barely moving in rush-hour traffic, chances are I'd change my choices. I'd also probably ride a scooter.

This one is cool. Plus side is wearing it to the office, zero fs given.
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/a...leather-jacket I guess my hang up is, I'm going to have more in the gear than I do in the $500 bike itself.

I spent five days in the hospital last November, for a simple staph infection in my leg.
The hospital bill was just shy of $20,000. My coinsurance part of that was $750. A sizeable skin graft could easily put you in the same situation. Good gear is CHEAP when you think for a moment about the alternative. https://www.ninjette.org/forums/blog.php?b=8384

My question is what makes you feel most comfortable? And how much do you care what random bystanders will think?
Then again, I'm the girl with a purple and black leather riding jacket, on a yellow bike. And I probably won't worry about changing either. My riding partner wears full leathers on a Triumph sport-tourer, so wear what you like. |

I wear full leathers because it gives the best protection. It only matches my bike because I could and it didn't cost any more, so why not?

Yep. I always do post in purple. Helps me find what I said in a thread, and also I just like purple. That's why I got the purple jacket. Husband has offered to change the color of my bike to purple but I think the yellow's kind of growing on me.

Do the pants and jacket zip straight to each other or did you have to sew one strip to the other?

I sourced a zipper compatible with the the pants and sewed the appropriate half onto the jacket. No big deal. We do have a sewing machine, BTW.
