When you're stopped at an intersection, you need to watch the mirrors and have an escape plan in mind. Be ready to implement it if the vehicle coming up behind you doesn't stop soon enough. Otherwise, your chances of becoming a bumper sandwich are greatly increased.

There is no way around this.
These tragedies will continue happening as long as drivers love getting intoxicated. We can take some precautions, but no rider can be completely safe or inmune to irresponsible drivers. I try avoiding night weekend rides as much as possible.
