Should I grease forks before putting them on?

So it was a major pain in the ass getting the forks off. Should I grease the new ones to make them slide in easier?

Getting them out of the triples? I wouldn't grease them, just take fine sand paper and wet/dry sand them silky smooth while you have them off.

I'm putting new one's on.don't have any sand paper.

So it would be okay to grease the fork tubes? Or just inside of the triple where they slide through?

I just don't see why you'd need to with brand new tubes. They should go in fine. Might have to turn them back and forth a little to get up in there.

why would you want your forks to slide around in the triples?

why are you taking your forks out often?

if they are tight to get out, use a flat head and pry the clamps apart a little bit.

The old forks were bent. So I'm replacing them. I didn't know if grease would help or just cause a major headache

I've never had too much of a problem. I wouldn't want lube there.

if the old forks were bent, the clamps may be misaligned

Update: The new forks are on the bike, everything looks good. Bike fell off the front stand, luckily I had helping me out, so all was good. Ended up prying open the clamps with a flat head screwdriver. It was way easier and I'm just a wimp...

Thanks for all the replies!

No dont grease or oil ... Just clean the inner surface thorughly with contact cleaner or alcohol.

Loosen the triples and then slide the forks in, measure desired height, tighten fork pinch bolts and at the end tighten triple head bolt. Mine is a fight to get in and i do it this way.
