I thought at one time Gordon said he had or could get just the diaphragm, though it's a bit of a pain to change.

Yes, there's some milling of cap on slide necessary to replace diaphragm.

Is there a write-up on this somewhere? The only ones I've seen done this way looked pretty gnarly.

You can also check youtube for some generic howtos on diaphragm replacement on cv carbs.

Thanks for the tips, guys. So I take it the original diaphragm rubber is sandwiched between a flange on the top of the slide and that cap? And in the case that you don't reuse those caps, I assume the diaphragm is just glued back in place on the bottom side / in the center?

Correct, but I'd advise to check with your vendor first and foremost, let HIM advise you precisely what needs be done.

Good tip on doing both as I would guess that the weight difference of removing the retainer disk would also effect the vacuum movement due to different slide weights.

I replaced just the diagrams pretty easily but depending on Ducamans price, I'd probably just go that route to save you some headache. 2 new diagrams on eBay are $70 for the pair

I've never seen a fix last. If you need a new one, which you probably will if you used some type of repair substance on the torn one, JBM industries sells replacements at a good price. The new owner is a git, but the equipment is good.

I assume you're good, but I have one if you still need one. It's been drilled, but a dab of CA will return it to stock.
