I was told that a car hit him from behind around 11 PM Sat with enough force to send him into a nearby parking lot. I don't know how the bike looks he had his gopro on his tank but the driver left the scene. This is what I was told from the people who ode with him that night.

Sounds like he had some sort of concussion, any other injuries? Road rash broken bones? Any clue how fast he was going and how fast the car was going when they hit?

I read this and my jaw hit the floor. This kind of stuff can truly happen to any of us.
My prayers are with him and his family through this difficult time. A rear end collision that strong can do a lot of damage to a person. Saturday night sounds likely that there may have been alcohol involved. I hope that person either turns themselves in or gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law for leaving a person in that condition. |

No details on the accident yet. Its believed he was leaving a group ride. The accident occurred on Airport Blvd, one of our busiest streets, around 1130pm. He was struck from behind and thrown off the bike. Family spoke with the detective today. Ill know more after I visit tonight.

Ok, seriously....
#1 @davidreaper, have you watched twist of the wrist 2? I suggest you do because your form is all sorts of ****ed up (I knew ive seen your bike before, on zx6r.com) #2 if you are going to ride like a douche do it correctly and safely #3 Dont cross the double yellows unless people are going slow... The people on that bridge were going fast enough to make the 250 stuggle getting past #4 The other lane is for oncoming traffic, not your motorcycle #5 Those "corners" looked to be in housing areas... Why are you racing around in there? What if someone pulled out of an unmarked road I'm all for having a good time and pushing the envelope a little, but get yourself in check before you go ride like an ass. You two not only have to keep an eye on your shittie riding, you also need to think about the other cars because they wont stop for you. I'm guilty when it comes to pushing it but the difference is I know how to eliminate a lot of variables that I cause myself, you guys clearly dont Anyway, speedy recovery! Ethio is a cool guy, and any rider going down isnt good

Well Alex is a strong fighter I'll definitely give him that. He visually looked a lot better. Once again, the staff seemed very positive on his progress.
His family greatly appreciated the card and flowers I brought for the site. They did not know he had such strong support from the community. Alex would praise ninjette.org on a daily basis. It really is great seeing everyone rally for him. Thank you! On a note towards the video, these actions are a rare form for him. He preaches fundamentals of safety better than anyone I know. I've even been scolded by him before. There is probably not a safer rider I'd feel more comfortable with. I've never seen him without full gear and a defensive demeanor. I'm sure he was not putting himself in a bad situation during the accident. |

Oh man, I'm not on this forum everyday anymore, so I just now read this thread. I've never even exchanged a message with him, but he is so much a part of this forum and being a fellow rider, this feels very personal. It sounds like his condition has improved... that's very good - it means he's fighting to get better. I'm not a religious person, but I faith. He and his family have my prayers. Please keep us updated.

When my little brother was in the hospital after his bike crash, his best friend was there all the time, and a lot of his friends the he rode with came up to the hospital as well. It helped the family to know that his friends supported and loved him like that. Josh, you are probably helping them a lot by all your support and you are a great friend indeed. I will continue to pray for him.

Yesterday I was reading about this asian guy, really active on another site, who passed away a few years ago. I started thinking about what it would be like to hear bad news like this on ninjette.org, hearing about major injury or passing. Now I know, and I am very sad.
Glad Ethio's outlook is positive... get better real soon buddy, you are awesome!

This has come up and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Even with insurance (which I'm pretty positive he has, but not 100% sure of the coverage), I'm sure there will be some tough bills coming up. Especially the physical therapy he may need.
Not to mention, his family may want nothing more to do with bike. I'm worried it may get auctioned off. Which, knowing Alex, could be very hard, with the love he put into it. I've never used any type of social media donation system. So, if anyone has experience, or recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure it could be a valuable tool. Locally, a couple of the guys are getting stickers/emblems to pass out with donations. I know a couple of groups want to get together and discuss what we can do. Yet, our best chance here will be good organization. |

Here is some more news I just got this from a buddy of mine
Apparently his jaw and cheek bone are broken, his eye socket and skull is fractured and possible optic nerve damage. His brain was bleeding at the time of the crash but stopped quickly it started to swell up as the dried blood is being filtered out, but the pressure has gone down though. He woke up today and was moving his broken leg around but doesn't know where he is and wasn't talking. There s no spinal cord damage but are unsure if he will be able to see out of that eye if so how well and if any brain damage. This thursday night we are going to talk about maybe a benefit if anyone from the GA, FL, AL, LA, MS area would like to join.

@davidreaper Do you know if Alex had a uninsured/underinsured policy on his insurance? From some quick research what I've read is that uninsured/underinsured will cover the bodily injury portion of a hit and run so long as there has been a police investigation and the driver cannot be found. If he does have the coverage I'd suggest having his family put in a claim on his behalf.
With this serious of an injury it should be easy to get the full payout. I had just a broken leg with medical bills of $78,000 and was payed out the max of the policy of 100k with no objection from the insurance company. His health insurance will take half the payout and the rest can be used for w/e else is needed, it should fully cover all of his medical expenses. I'd suggest contacting a personal injury lawyer if you run into any trouble with the insurance company. Also note that if the claim is not yet worth the full amount of coverage then the insurance company will not payout until he is fully healed. However, doctor visits and physical therapy can put a lien on the payout so him and his family never need to pay out of pocket (this is what I'm currently doing with my physical therapy and doctor visits through my underinsured). The ambulance and copay for insurance will need to be payed out of pocket but it shouldn't be enough to break the bank. To anyone who is reading this thread and does not have uninsured/underinsured on their policy, go add it right now. This can happen to you.

And a personal injury lawyer will not get him more if the insurance bills already exceed the amount of the policy, which in all likelihood they do (for example my broken leg and a 100k policy). The lawyer would work on contingency and would take 30-40% of the claim which in a case like this is a massive waste of money. It would be more beneficial in a case like this to seek a lawyers help and pay them based on their hourly rate
