Hi Andy and welcome from Brighton, East Sussex (UK)!
Have you got an A2 licence yet?

Not as of yet, im completely new to bikes tbh. My dad said he would cut my uni funding if i got a bike! (though now i have done some research, he is a bit happier about it).

Would you recommend waiting another year and doing the DAS? or just going the usual route of CBT then test which limits me for the first two years?

Well in my case i had very limited funding, so i did CBT, then bought a Honda CBF125, used it for 6 months and passed the test. Now I'm limited to 33bhp for 2 years.
Pros:
The licence (CBT+tests) cost me around £200, and I got all money back when i sold the honda.
Now it's still economical enough to ride Ninja 250R, i average about 60mpg (the Honda did 120mpg!)

Cons:
I get urges to have more power now, and i'm getting used to control the bike at high speeds.
Sometimes you get that 'Oh, is it only a two-fifty...' from others. That doesn't sound butch!

However, i know if you went straight to 600cc or more i might have been dead already. So this makes sense to start gradually, and this 250R is a good little interim bike.
