New rider, wanting to get 250... price ok?

Hey everyone, new guy here... Ill properly introduce myself later in the introduction sub-forum if I get the bike...

Im planning on getting a 2009 Ninja 250. Here is more more info and pics. I want to know if this sounds like a good deal.

2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250

Red/Orange?
1065 miles
Had 600 mile service at dealer
Carbon fiber Yoshimura slip on
Fender eliminator kit
Tank protector
Bike has never been dropped either

Seller wants $2300. I think its a pretty good deal from watching a few bikes on eBay... Or would there be better deal once it gets even colder later? He's about 130 miles away so I'm going to get a friend to come with me and pick it up and test it.

Yay or nay?

price almost seems too low to me considering its condition
I would just make sure to run the bike for a bit and through some revs to make sure there's no obvious issues like oil leaking out somewhere, etc

What a crappy day. Just got this email...

I did talk to the guy an give him my email. Seemed to sound legit. Hopefully its a mistake, obviously I wouldn't send him money or give it to him without a proper ride of the bike. Arg, been looking a bike, and videos, and reading up on so much, its an obsession, and I dont even have a bike yet!

Price was about 700 dollars cheaper than what I normally see. Don't get too hurt- you just got lucky!

Most folks would start off at around 3200 for that bike. May could be bought for 27-2800 if someone desperate to sell. My 2 cents.

Look at it this way; your bike has already been made. Its out there somewhere- you just have to find it. Finding the right bike is half the fun.

I found my 2002 with 2300 miles on it for $1000.00. Had been garaged everyday of its life.

Thanks, what is considered a "high mileage" bike? I know it depends on year and personal preference, but just curious on what the general consensus is...

What do you guys think about this bike? I *might* be able to talk him down a bit more perhaps...

Am I better off just trying to get a bike in the spring? I'm assuming prices will go up though correct?

Looks like a pretty good deal. I emailed a guy in Easley with an almost new Yamaha R6 (?) on Craig's List that was "perfect" and only $2300. He wrote back saying the bike was in Illinois and he was a cargo pilot and was at his parents' home in London and gave me intricate directions on how to pay him, with all kind of guarantees of how he'd refund my money if I didn't like it. It was all "to good to be true." My answer to his email was: "You're shi**ing me! Do you think I'm a moron? You obviously work for a Nigerian airline." I never heard back. I'm in the upstate also. I bought my 08 off Craig's List a couple of months ago and got a better deal than the one you're looking at but I was very cautious. Everything turned out great and the seller couldn't have been more honest and accurate in his description. There are deals out there, you just need to be patient and careful.

lol, "You obviously work for a Nigerian airline." Thats great!

Were you talking about the 08 I posted or the original bike that was a scam? How much would you guys pay for the 08 with 8200 miles. Has some nice mods. http://greenville.craigslist.org/mcy/2028568882.html

I was talking about the 08. Mine had no mods to the bike but came with a nice jacket, helmet, new can of chain wax and owner's manual, 2nd key, etc. I paid $2000 (asking $2300) and had to drive to Alabama to get it. It is red with 4700 miles (when I bought it). It did not have a scratch on it and had been kept in a garage since new. It looked no different than the red 2010 I sat on in the Columbia dealer's showroom (except for the flat black muffler on the 2010). Good luck.

Looks like a decent price, go look at it. Do you know where it is in Greenville?

I'm not sure what to aim for... get a bike with mods already like an exhaust with higher mileage, or a newer stock bike? Not sure of the different resale values for the future just in case?

I saw a 2008 silver R6 and the person was a cruise ship bartender and was leaving for an extended time. LOL. I always like to play with those folks. Like wow, can you put it on the ship and I will meet you and the ship in port in Bermuda, etc. Stupid stuff like that.

No dude, it's faster coz it's black (that part was kinda a joke) If it's out of your range that's fine, it was just an option that I saw.

I would always advise a newer stock bike over a modded and higher mileage bike. The mods don't get you much as far as resale value.

Haha, yeah, I was wanting a black (blue and red looked great too) and was really considering that bike before. The seller with the red 08 is working with me and is letting me have it for $2100 next Friday. Cant wait! Gonna try to get the most of what I can before it gets even colder here...

Arg, I cannot wait till Friday, I might ask for a earlier test ride to hold me off till then... might do more bad than good.

BTW, ahenthus, sounds like you got a crazy good deal considering for when you got it, and even now...

I agree it was a crazy good deal. I had to go to northern Alabama to get it but I had a fun time doing it. One thing that was fun about it was that the seller (a great guy) was a Crimson Tide fan. I told him I had a funny feeling the Gamecocks were going to beat the Tide, but Auburn worried me because we would be playing in Auburn. How prophetic was that! Now that those two games are over, I think we'll take Auburn in the rematch at the SEC championship game in Atlanta next month. I just hope Cam Newton is playing. I'd rather beat them at their full strength. The Gamecocks have always been an inconsistent team (as they have been this year) but they do have something special this year.
