To me, it's amazing what you're doing Dave. Can't wait to see the end result. Someone in this thread mentioned "street tracker" bikes. I've never heard of that term before, so I googled for pictures of that style of bike. It looks really good! Would you be interested in making your bike like that?
They look a bit like a cross between a cafe racer and an mx bike. |

Akima, in the States they do dirt track racing over long oval tracks, it's a bit like a cross between moto-cross and speedway. The look is very popular for people customising 60's/70's/80's aircooled twins. Triumph 750 Bonnevilles, (Meriden, not Hinckley), XS650 Yamaha's etc.
Not so common for more modern bikes, the radiator can be a sticking point on aesthetics, though it can be done. |

Yeah - just noticed that those Street Tracker bikes above don't have a big radiator at the front like our Ninjettes do. What can be used instead of the radiator for cooling? |

The ninjettes, (like most modern bikes - and cars) are water-cooled, and don't have cooling fins on the engine. You have to keep the radiator and water system or the engine will overheat and seize. Would only take a few minutes of running to do so.
Older machines, like all the other bikes I own, (and have owned), are air-cooled, they have large fins on the head and barrel to dissipate the heat. |

That is absolutely awesome to know, specially since I have my eye on a set of them on eBay. They come complete with lower triple. Only drawback would be that I will lose one of the brand new sets of stem bearings I just installed on the old lower triple.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a set of piston rings? Apparently they are now considered Unobtanium since they been " discontinued by Kawasaki" according to several online retailers and like 3 of my local dealers. I will pay for the part and shipping, is the only thing I need to get my engine back running, part number is: #13025-0010. Im getting desperate over here. I would appreciate it so much, this just confirms this bike has a curse on it.

Try talking to RacerX, he might know where to get some aftermarket ones that are the same specs as stock.

As long as I don't have to buy them in pairs, I already have an OEM set just need the second one. Will see about contacting him when my mechanic gets back to me.

piston ring set

The standard piston ring set for one piston is part number 13008-0025. If you order online, ronayers.com is a good vendor. |

So the dumbasses at babbits online strike again, because in my receipt obviously it says pistons STD and piston ring set STD. They sent me the wrong kind, god damn it that is 40 bucks to the crapper because I cant even send them back. Gonna go buy a pair of sets of standard rings from bike bandit right now. Thanks for clarifying this El, this is so annoying because now I have a sealed set of .5 plus rings that I don't have any use for or can sell to anyone.

Uh, if you ordered the right part and they sent you the wrong part, it is absolutely their responsibility to refund your money, or send you the right parts...

Not unless they have an Ironclad policy, it says 10 days after receiving the package, It has been more than ten days. I will see about selling it/ donating it since there is alot of racers in here and those rings are now unobtanium, I just dont want them at my house collecting dust when they can be enjoyed by someone who needs a rebuild for his/her race bike.

Thank you, reminds me I gotta call the shop and see about my engine, I kinda forgot about it for a minute. on the bright side I might have some new calipers coming my way, now if I could only find and affordable set of front forks and a complete 08+ front tire in black.

Not sure what I'll have left over when my project is done, but if I part out the donor bike, I might have a few things you need. How's it going? My project is on hiatus until after the new year!

About the same, I'm going to start doggin' my mechanic in a little bit. As for your part out, if you decide to do it, I will take a lot of nuts and bolts off your hands. Really should've gotten that situation sorted out a long time ago, but then again is never bad to have extra hardware.

Small shop, Brooks Cycle Center. Only reason I'm not complaining is because I am in no rush to get it back, mostly because is winter and I can't work on the bike(I have no garage). I just will call My mechanic this week like I do every week for a progress report, he is not rushing either because I told him no rush.

Thanks man, will do. Jason Is a pretty stand up guy and really good with customer service, he has helped me a lot without even charging me. He is now a bit overwhelmed with a loot of winter business( is the season when everyone and their grandmother needs or wants work done tot heir bikes) and going back to school, Im sure my engine is gonna be home for xmas.

Thanks bro, but I got all the stuff, i just need to wait for my mechanic to give it back. I found out why he has been delaying everything, he burned himself when a harley gas line pretty much blew itself on him, it was pretty serious.
