Loud, Cool, Horsepower Goodness

The Totsubo Motorsports pipes are finally ready. 2 HP more than Area P, but they are VERY loud. Like Harley loud. Great for racing or street anti-social types. Beautiful MotoGP-like looks. Not cheap, but cheap HP is never cheap Got em in the store.

Wow!! That looks cool. Are they two separate pipes or are they 2-1-2?

LOL, yeah... you should hear this thing. Sounds like a NASCAR V8! I'll have to get a sound clip recorded. Should have done it at the track - my neighbors aren't going to go for it around here.

Hmm, now if only we could design some silencers for these to make them more street friendly we would have the coolest damn gp style pipes around for the 250r. I am impressed by the performance gains though and I'm definitely waiting to see vid of these in action. Thank you Richard and the Totsubo team for being so dedicated to getting the most out of the 250R I can only imagine what is yet to come. I doubt we will see anything near 125GP levels but we can dream.

If it's possible to get a decibel meter out on one, I'd appreciate it!

New Hampshire's got a 99 dB limit for track days and while I imagine the 'jette stays lower than that even with this guy, it'd be awful to get up there and have to put a stock exhaust back on.

Wait. I'm new to this. Is this a full system (including headers or is it all one piece?)
Does that mean there's 2 seperate headers ( 2-2 ? )?
Compared to the 2-1 Yoshi full system?

its not plastic. these are race fairings, so they're fiberglass.

Loud enough to make everyone turn their heads, but in a good way. I don't think its nearly as loud as a Harley with straight pipes. Sound is a very nice racy, bark. Very raspy and raw. On throttle, sounds awesome.

The DB meter at Infineon got me at 104db, well over their conservative limit of 101. I just switch to my Area P for the Infineon races. Takes me about 5 minutes to switch pipes.

Depending on the brand of bodywork and how its mounted, it might touch. It does touch my Catalyst race bodywork. I'm not too worried about a small bit of burning, but I will probably apply heat tape soon. Sorry, but I have no idea if it will touch the OEM bodywork. It might.

did you re-jet at all for the new pipes (from your area-p jetting, not from stock)? i'm assuming you did since it sounds like you've dyno'd it.

I was a bit rich with the Area P at Willow Springs, so I just left it alone. Runs good.

Updated the store page with a dyno chart. 2.7HP more than Area P short exhaust!

I think ill wait and save more to buy that exhaust....It looks and sounds too good to pass up...79mph-83mph is that pretty accurate ? that kind of difference must be noticeable at lower speeds to is it ?

Ok maybe someone can explain the dyno charts a little better than I can. Whats the difference between a smoothing of 3 and one of 5. You test your AP at a net 2 hp gain over stock while they have 5 on their site and equally HP to the new exhaust you sell. I know all dyno's aren't equal but does the smoothing effect this.

As for the actual exhaust it is a nice set up. I was wondering how long till someone came out with a design like this. Not to my taste but racers will like it. And like you said with the amount of work put into making those certainly not cheap. lol.

Between smoothing 3 and 5 or 0, the lower smoothing numbers will show a higher HP number due to the spikes.

smoothing of 0 will definitely show a higher (false) HP number due to spikes, but there should be very little difference, if any, between 3 & 5. It's not magic, you can look at the chart itself and see how the curve looks as it approaches the peak and quickly determine if the peak # is a glitch/spike or if it smoothly rises to that peak and comes back down.
