Island vacation crash on Naxos ***PICS ADDED***
So there I was, sitting on the back of a 80cc scooter while my friend was driving.
Sunny, perfect day, on a Greek island called Naxos. Road conditions were fairly good, paved main road. I was stairing off into the distance wondering about nothing when all of a sudden I found myself skidding on my shin and knees. Fantastic. I must have skidded for a good 7 meters. "It all happened so fast". So many things raced through my mind while I was infusing my limbs with the earth. 1. WTF ?!?!! 2. Oh ****, when am I gonna stop sliding ?? 3. How come I'm not feeling any pain at this moment ??? 4. Did I just lose a limb ??? (I saw the mirror break off the scooter and fly past me as well as my friends sandals, all which I thought might have been a body part ....) 5. Is my friend ok ?? (I saw him do a bit of a roll behind me) 6. Is anyone seeing this ?? Practically mid slide I manage to jump to my feet and quickly get the scooter off the damn road and onto the side and turn to my friend, who by the time I had gotten to the scooter was already up and swearing at everything. Luckily there were no incoming cars (and there never was until we got out of there). Also luckily, the scooter still worked !! It sustained a broken left break lever, minor scratches to the plastics, a broken left mirror, and a broken left turn signal. My god. After laying down a thick layer of curses followed by a delirious layer of laughing we checked the damage we had physically sustained. From the knee all the way to the top of my foot , my left leg looked like hell, maximum road rash. My left hand had sustained some minor road rash too at the base of my palm were I had put it down by instinct, my wrist also absorbed a good percent of the impact which is now hard to move and flex. My friend had his right foot rashed up, not too bad. But, his left elbow sustained a big gash which was bleeding quite a bit and pretty bad rashing. Along with other minor cuts and scrapes to his arms and legs he also sustained brushing to his left hip area. Again, I thanked the universe for the bike still being able to run. It seems that the passenger foot pegs absorbed and prevented most of the damage to it. Luckily a few meters down the road was a supermarket were we bought some water, alcohol for the wounds and towels. We cleaned up ourselves the best we could there out in the parking lot, with a few inevitable stares from passing tourists on their scooters. At this point the pain starts to kickin. We visit a local pharmacy and after picking up some bandages, iodine and hydro peroxide we get back to our hotel room and proceed to clean our wounds.... Let's just say I got tired from all the pain and minor surgery lol.... Thought I was gonna **** my pants at one point from applying good ol peroxide to my wounds and try to clean them. ............. We ended up visiting the local doc and around 100 euros later we were patched up. We were also prescribed antibiotics (Cefalcor) and a shot in the ass each of some kind of tetanus preventative. The next morning I find myself sitting here on a sunny day outside my hotel room looking at the amazing scenery in front of me. My leg is in a lot of pain, feels like ...... Just pain. Smoking a cigar trying to figure out how in the hell I'm gonna "fix" the bike. Damn, we shoulda bought the insurance for 3 euros ..... Here are those much needed pics (or not, depending on your stomach) *****NSFW***** Last futzed with by Noobman; July 25th, 2014 at 06:19 PM. Reason: Pics added |

Should've bought more than insurance...maybe something a bit more substantial than shorts and sandals. Yeah, it's a scooter, but as you learned, it'll still F you up.

3 Euros for insurance? That's like less than $5 IIRC. Why did you decide not to get it?
