Ridersmate GPS safety and tracking device

Got a email from work with a link for this. Though it sounded interesting. Especially for those of us the ride in the middle of nowhere.

I'm interested to know if its a service you would have to buy like the spotwalla units.

It's cell network based. For it to work, the user needs to buy a sim card, which then provides access to a cell network. I like that it provides notification when there is a crash and you separate from the bike. But I don't like that it is tied to cell coverage, which I believe may be spottier here in the US than it might be in the UK. Spot (and Inreach) work via satellite modem from most locations worldwide, not needing cell towers nearby to function.

That's what i was thinking. If it would come to the US it would have to be satellite based or it would be a bit pointless. the less traveled arias when you would need it tend to be dead zones.

It has potential though. Maybe if they partner up with spot...

it will be interesting to see where it goes.
