Help! engine bolts falling out?
Hello. Some people might know I recently purchased my first bike. Sorry I haven't updated about the bike, I just haven't had time. This morning I was cleaning it and noticed something I think to be serious.
What are these bolts and how do I fix this? Also, where can I find replacements because it seems the bottom one is missing all together. you can see the bolt is sticking almost all the way out Please help! I want to get this taken care of today! |

Yea, you probably want those back in there. Try this....
Engine Mounts Looks like you need items 92002, 92002B, and 12015A X 2.

Don't run that bike without those.
Use a torque wrench and torque them to spec once you have them. According to my service supplement, they should be at 24 ft lbs, or 32 Nm, depending on which measurement system you're using. |

I'd recommend some blue loctite. My 250 seems to rattle everything loose. Once I used it on the motor mounts and fairing bolts they haven't came back out. Just don't use red or you'll have a terrible time if you decide to pull them out again.

The OEM nuts have a metal locking mechanism on them. They are superior to nuts you get at home depot. Buy the OEMs if you can. And yea... seriously dude, unless you can find and install the missing fasteners, you should not ride, not even around the block. The engine can fall out. Actually that happened to someone on this forum recently apparently. One of my engine bolts vibrated loose recently as well. I count myself lucky. LOCKTITE DEM BISHES! No, you're ok. That's exactly what you want it to look like... when you're removing your engine.
One thing you want to avoid though is your rear wheel hitting your engine. I'm pretty sure that guarantees a spectacular high-side. As a side note: Notice the frame flex when you completely remove an engine. When I replaced mine, I thought I would have significant difficulty getting the new one on due to this, but with a second pair of hands it went surprisingly easy.... but then again, we weren't doing it on the freeway either.

Yes. Definitely don't run without those. I had the same problem (difference is it happened on my '10). Long story short: bent the frame beyond repair and was bike-less for about a month whilst fighting the dealer I bought it from to make good from their mistake. Ended up with them paying for the entirety of the expenses, but wasn't worth the stress.

I'm scared for your life bro! Good thing you saw that. When I get bought mine, a few months ago, I noticed a few bolts missing too. But mine were in the battery compartment. Yours are seriously safety risk. Get them replaced before you take it out for a spin again!

it's a 2002
Gosh, that was so bad. No I didn't ride the bike like that. I was just admiring my new bike one morning when I noticed that. Good thing I did. Both bolts where sticking out halfway and the front bolt was still tight. Guess that's why it didn't fall out. One of the nuts was laying on the garage floor next to it so it must have just happened or something. The bottom nut was missing but i got another one at home depot and put blue lock tight on it like suggested. |

Sounds like someone was in the process of jacking your engine!
