Finally got a 250 :)

A little history. My first bike was a brand new 2006 500R. Then I upgraded to a brand new 2006 ZX6R within a few months. In 2008, I sold the ZX6R and bout a used 2006 ZX10r. In 2010, I sold the 2006 ZX10R and bought my current bike, a used 2008 ZX10R. I've always wanted a 250 since the 2008 came out. I finally picked one up. It's a black 2009 with 3,800 miles. I changed the oil over the weekend had finally got a chance to ride her. I'm surprised on how much fun it was and gets amazing gas mileage to boot!

Just wanted to say "hi!" and look forward to learning more about the 250.

Here it is

Here's a picture of my 2008 ZX10R.

Looks good, both bikes.

Got any mods in mind, and if you don't mind me asking, what'd you pay for it?

Thanks...

None yet. Might do the basics...slip on (I'm liking the yosh pipe so far), fender eliminator, integrated tail light and front flush mounts just to clean her up a bit. I don't plan to do any air/fuel ratio mods. If anything, I might even gear it taller for MPG benefit. I got the 10 if I want power.

I've been looking for the last few weeks and noticed they tend to sell around 3200 - 4000 for a 2008+ in my area and they sell quick this time of year. I traveled a total of 4 hours to pick this one up but got it for 2700 after negotiating.

Looks like you got a good deal, I was looking at ninja 250s since last fall, and everytime I found one and was prepared to make an offer, they sold :P

As for an exhaust, if you're looking to spend the amount that a yoshi slip-on exhaust costs, you might as well go for the Area P full exhaust.

Nice to see some people actually are beyond the "upgrade/downgrade" attitude when buying bikes. You had a specific purpose (mileage) and bought the bike that provided just that and then some Good for you bro!

That's why I went with my 250, mileage :P

Albeit, it is my first bike, I do have motocross background & everyone recommended a 600...which I was strongly considering a cbr 600

I was going for the mileage thing as well but I couldn't help myself doing some small a/f mods. I still get decent gas mileage for what it is

Welcome! I'd be interested in hearing more of your impressions on the 250 so far. You have the unique experience of first riding one after being used to a liter bike. Many people on this forum are curious if they should grab a bigger bike. What are your thoughts on the comparison...obvious differences aside?

The power. Especially in the lower power range. I can see how screwing up (i.e. too much throttle) on a 250 would be very unforgiving. The same screw up would put you on your ass on a liter bike. WOT on a liter bike never ceases to amaze me how a machine can be so powerful! The 10 is very low revving and is geared very tall, stock. 1st gear will do about 100 mph. That's about the top speed of the 250 yet, on the 10, you have 5 more gears to go. I've been riding long enough to know there's more to it then speed. I appreciate everything the 250 has to offer. I do however, understand the need to upgrade. I wish I was able to keep all my previous bikes. Each one of them had strong points over the other.
