took my msf class

took my msf class, 3 days, first was book work/videos last 2 days were riding (never ridden before) and it was hecka fun, the instructors were cool, joked aound but were still serious. I was soo nervious during the "test":
we had to do two circles, changing direction after the first 1, all withen a 20 by 40 foot box, tht was the hardest for me...i lost points cus i put my foot down on my second circle:{ . than we did obstacle avoidance, tht was just getting up to about 15 mph than swerving riight past some cones, than left back into the path. um quick stop...i did good, and than cornering...i lost some points cus my throttle control isnt good...i slowing down a little while turning.

but all in all im extremely happy that I took the course, I think Its a MUST for new riders.

and now I want a bike to continue my learning...
my local shop is tryn to sell me a 2010 250 for 3,800 before tax and ****...
tht too much?

Congrats on passing the class. Negotiate with the dealers exclusively with the OTD (out the door) price. Doesn't matter how much they say freight, setup, miscellaneous, etc. is, and doesn't matter how much they discount off the MSRP. Only price that matters is the overall price that you're going to write the check for (or get the loan for). California pricing is pretty up there, so I'm curious about what would be a good deal out the door. $5000 OTD or above would be way high. $4000 OTD is probably a little lower than could be expected (considering the MSRP is even above that, especially for the SE versions). This guy recently purchased one OTD for $3800, but that's in TX, and I'm not sure it's feasible to get the same pricing here in CA.

Congrats on the msf. Have you considered a used 250? $3,800 isn't bad but slightly used is better

Congrats!!! My class starts Friday.....

I would recommend a used 250. They are hard to come by, but when you find one...it is usually a better deal. This is your first bike and who knows, you might wanna upgrade later to something bigger. Used is the way to go. I found my bike online! Love it!!! I think the dealership is trying to sucker you....I think it's too much....but I don't live in CA.

Nice! I agree, the course is a MUST. In PA it's free, and to think people pass it up....really?

I found my bike on Craigslist. It has some scratches from the previous owner, but that's cool - this way I'll be less irritated when I dump it.

Thanks guys! yeah i have definitely lookied into getting a used ninja, it just seems that around here,(SF bay erea)theres not too many or if there is a pretty good priced 1 it sells pretty quick.

someone asked what dealer I went to...I went to one in Tracy, I figure further away from the San Fran stuff will be cheaper.

someone else asked what bike I used on the MSF course, it was the honda rebel.

I had a Honda Rebel on my MSF class too.. Didn't like it, I kept looking for the footpegs further back than they were. They had a Ninja 250 as well but by the time I put my eyes on her someone else had already hopped on

That's what I thought. lol I basically got the bike and then started looking for ways to make it my own....without the hassle of "overpaying" for things I didn't want. PS. I love my bike!
