That reminds me a lot of Simoncelli's incident. Thankfully the outcome in this case was much better.

Doubt it, but he probably would have been just as safe, if only less comfortable. It would take an absolutely IMMENSE force to be able to do catastrophic damage to any full face motorcycle helmet. I don't think a human would survive the impact, even if the helmet were able to.

That's one lucky guy! I wonder what are his comments concerning the incident. For sure, Airoh is going to make some cash of this incident.

Not backed up by any technical evidence I see. I'll stick my head in a decent helmet until I see some hard facts. In fact, I'm probably still going to stick my head in a decent helmet even if the facts support that a "cheap" helmet is just as good as an expensive helmet. You can stick your head where ever you want (pun intended).

With that said.. I do have a Fulmer helmet that was $100 new. It is Snell certified. My Arai was obviously more expensive but it carries the same Snell certification. Both comfortable, both stylish. I'll take a helmet littered with certifications before I consider price. However, as a general rule, less expensive helmets have less safety certifications because those certifications cost money.

Your insinuation that a cheaper helmet isn't as safe as an expensive one isn't backed by any "technical evidence" either. I use an rf1100 because it fits comfortably and got good reviews. To be blunt, I never second guessed the price. I have no problem saying that the materials, fit and finish are better than some cheaper helmets. You get what you pay for in that sense, as always. But it would be a flat out lie to say that it's somehow safer.

That's not true. I stated that my Fulmer was $100 and is Snell certified (2005) and that my Arai was more expensive ($700) and Snell certified (2005). Which technically is evidence that a less expensive helmet is as safe as a more expensive one.

The problem I have is that people are not taught to look for the right inexpensive helmet. Not any cheap helmet will do, you need a cheap helmet with Snell or ECE certifications. That article in particular speaks to the masses but does not truly educate.

Snell certification is not the absolute measure of safety. You said yourself, most helmets aren't certified because it costs too much. It's not because they couldn't pass. I'd say most helmets today use the same materials and manufacturing process and even come from the very same factory in Japan, China or Indonesia as their snell approved siblings.
