Down But Not Out

I must say I've done fairly well with over 20k miles without a mishap until now. I'm pretty sure this was mainly my fault but the conditions weren't on my side. I had just gotten some new kenda tires mounted yesterday. So I have new tires with coating still on the top, I may be in Florida but it was still pretty cold this morning so we have cold tires and a cold road.

I came to a intersection to make a right turn, I didn't think I was going that fast and I even went pretty wide. As soon as my tires hit that nice cold white line on the road though it just completely low sided. I held on in case there was any chance to save it until it was already way too far leaned over and slid for a bit.

Right fairing is pretty trashed, right clip on bent down, brake pedal bent inward, muffler scratched up, front right blinker broke. I'll upload some pics.

As far as gear goes I had JUST got new gauntlets and boy am I glad I got them, the palm sliders definitely got a bit of use and the outside of one of the index fingers is a bit scuffed but they did a great job. My jacket has some road marks on it but the textile is still together, there is a tiny little spot where it looks like the thread is a little damaged but it's mostly superficial. Helmet is fine.

As far as my condition, I'm pretty sure i'm fine. I can feel a few bruises forming, included one on my ego but i'll live.

You can't see it too well in the pictures but the fairing cracked around the bolt on the top from the clip on and around the ninja logo from the blinker crushing it in.

Glad you weren't hurt during this mishap. Sounds like most of the bike's injuries aren't that expensive or don't need to be fixed right away. I give you props for riding in Florida. Those ****ers are crazy!

Believe it or not, nobody actually got out and came up to me and that intersection has plenty of traffic. Oh well, i don't expect much from the people in my area lol.

They saw me get up right away and move it off the road and kept going.

Time for flush mounts!

Those cracks don't look too bad, least the fairing doesn't have a hole punched through it. Maybe something like ABS plastic repair to clean it up, sand it down, and then repaint? Or the redneck version of a crap ton of duct tape on the back side?

^^^ Completely fixable. Now you get to choose your paint job or a colorite touch up.

this should come in handy for fixing the fiberglass fairings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsoKAHU5xUw

seems like a great excuse for clipons a slip on/full exhaust system and flush mount turn signals, and potentially a new paint scheme too if you're tired of the red.

Sadly I do not have the money to buy any major parts anytime soon. So for now I'll just take the strong pipe I used to bend my other clip on before and straighten it out, it seems to have bent in just the one spot so it should be easy enough. Then I'll take off the slip on and spray the black portion with new high temp paint. Sand off the rough edges on the bar end and brake lever. Replace the front right blinker. Bend the Brake pedal back out a bit. As far as the fairing goes though I might try to get some sort of filler, or just replace it later.

It depends what seems worth the investment. I plan to upgrade within a year probably so I don't want to drop cash into the bike to only get a portion of it back. I'll get it in an acceptable state and do what I can with the appearance over time. In a few months i'll be in a better living situation where i'll be able to put more money aside for things. For right now I just can't afford it. But luckily the stuff that does need to get fixed right away is easy enough and not very costly.

Paint lines are evil when cold, and even more fun if they are even slightly damp. Glad you and the bike made it through with minor scrapes.

Cool

Very sorry about your fall, William.

I was under the impression that you had given up motorcycling since last September.

I dropped my bike a couple weeks ago because of slippery garage conditions. I was furious but it happens to everyone who rides whether it's a big crash or a small drop. Motorcycles look better with dirt rubbed in them anyways.

Sorry about your crash but glad you and your moto were not badly damaged. It sounds like you have a good plan on repairing the damage. ABS cement and some clamps can do wonders!
