I expected that to be worse considering all the pics of ankle injuries that I've seen, that said it's still good reason to 1. wear boots and 2. not put your foot down at 30mph (unless she made contact with him?).

Oh my god. I just don't understand how people think no gear is a good idea.
IMO most of the gear you can buy these days looks freaking awesome.

You should invest in a jedi robe, the extra sensitivity to the force will keep injury at bay

seriously though, all the stuff I see looks pretty sick as well especially icon, A*, and scorpion gear.

Hahah. If I had the armored jackets like: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/f...n-sport-jacket

I could wear a robe overtop and look like a Jedi from the Clone Wars series hahah.

Yeah, i was braced for more. That wasn't bad gore wise.

Amazing how when things aren't "right", sometimes the brain takes a moment to figure out what the hey. Had to look at the X-ray to make sense of the foot.

I'm going to try to get a few MD rides going in the spring and a halloween ride would be a pretty fun way to cap off the season. Plus who wouldn't want to throw candy at little kids

Why does it take an event like that to change your behaviour? I don't have to burn my hands picking a tray out of an oven before I realize I need heat protection for my hands.

Even if you don't come to realize on your own the dangers of speed + asphalt, surely it only takes one conversation with an ATGATT rider before you realize how important gear is.

many people have not faced serious injury before and don't know the strength of the human body (or weakness in most cases) and so they don't believe that the situations they are in are enough to lead to serious injury. or that if faced with serious injury, that the recovery will be difficult or impossible. they're obviously just ignorant about what happens when flesh hits asphalt at 75mph.

Idk, after surgery he should be able to fit into a boot again. I see running post recovery being the largest hurdle.

Here's a hint... The asphalt wins.

I've seen severe burns on a microscopic level and it is quite amazing to look at scientifically. If you damage it below the stem cell level (which is pretty easy to do) that stuff won't come back. I can't imagine the pain that someone would have to ensure from losing that many layers of skin. Often times the primary injuries aren't the ones that kill you. It's the secondary infections. Oh, and don't forget the fact that you may end up with Addison's Disease if you do make it through the recovery process.

Even a full leather Dainese one piece is tons less than your ER copays will be, if you even have insurance.

I know this stuff gets discussed a lot but I wish people would pay more attention to it.

How do you figure that?

Are you sure you weren't thinking of a different disease?

rare case but if your body is stressed a great deal IE surgery or serious bodily injury your adrenal glands will "burn out"

I'm sure there are some other diseases you can get

I'm also sure it's not going to happen to every person but one more reason to wear all of your gear

Addison's Disease is kind of rare, but that's not to say that a serious injury can't cause or exacerbate other diseases. The most serious secondary threat to a biker after an accident is infection. Pneumonia is also a threat if the biker has to be put on a ventilator.

As far as the foot injuries in the photo, it looks more like his foot got stuck in the spokes some how. I don't see how you could get that kind of injury by simply dragging your foot at 30 mph.

Compared to what I see all the time, sneakers are awesome gear. Go down town, Orange Avenue, Orlando on Sunday afternoon. There is some gas station that squids school up at.

Thousands of stretched 'busa riding squids can't be wrong. Flip-flops are the ultimate footgear. Shorts, and wife beaters are the ultimate body protection, and sunglasses are the ultimate headgear.

You do see the occasional helmet hanging from the lock. It is NOT for the rider. It is for the underage girl to wear the rider hopes to pick up.

You're kind of describing me in my position when I bought my 250 and right before I joined this site (2 months ago). I still haven't taken my beginner's course. I'm nervous, but excited that I get to experience this all.

I thought when I bought my ninja it's all about looks and having fun etc but the #1 thing that's in my head now is doing it all safely. Seriously people say the internet is bad but if I would have never joined this forum I probably would still have the mindset of a complete f*** moron, for some people it takes much more than that to realize to have dangerous fun you have to be safe. I'm yet to experience.

If I didn't think gear was sexy I probly wouldn't wear it... Yes it makes me safer, but oddly the safer the gear the sexier.
