Q2 users

Anyone get these type of tears on your dunlops? Seem to be common and Dunlop race support phone rep told me it is nothing to worry about. Still it doesn't make me too confident. Sorry for poor quality pics, took them late last night.

Haven't seen them in either my Q2 or Q3. Q2 rear, 5000 miles and one track day, Q3 front ~500 miles and one track day.

Not a Dunlop user but I have seen similar little tears on some Michelins - again was told nothing to really worry about.

I have had a bit of cupping with mine but never had a set of Q2's do that to me. What kind of riding have you been doing lately?

Had similar tears forming on my Bridgestone BT003 too. Showed it to the bridgestone race support guy at the track and he also said its fairly common, nothing to worry about and will go away as the tire wears. He informed me its just a small void in the rubber that forms in the mold during production. I have since done a couple races and a couple track days and he was right. These voids are going away since they where close to the surface and I have worn through them.

That's what Dunlop race support told me over the phone. Dunlop customer service said have dealer send tire back for warranty evaluation.

Just street riding. If it wasn't the same type of cut on both sides of the tire, with not such cut in the middle where you usually wear the tire, i'd figure I ran something over. Track day on Monday. Might buy new tire and send this one back to see what the answer is and if I get a credit, or they return it and say run it.

I cheaped out a couple of years ago and ran a trackday at Daytona with Q2's Halfway through the day I started to get tears like that- except mine went the width of the tire.

I didn't run all the sessions because I was worried the tire would separate entirely.

I have since put that same tire on my street bike and put over 5000 miles on it with no issues. It's time for a new one now though.

The Dunlop crew at the track said it was normal after excessive heat of running a DOT tire to the extremes I was- I'm shocked to see it happened to you with only running it on the street.

Lemme know how the Q3's do, here was my set of Q2's a year ago after 3 track days with suspension dialed in just about right. Light cupping (air pressure slightly off) and no tears.

Dave Moss posted a similar picture of a Q3 flipped and was concerned about delamination, but Dunlop apparently reached out and said it's not that, don't worry about it.

Prior to the NInja 250 I had, I was using the Q2s a lot on my D675 track bike.

It's common to see that happen...nothing to worry about. It will not affect handling or grip.

I would only worry if the crack festers itself to something worst like if it actually will delaminate from the carcass itself and you have a huge chunk of tire compound hanging off exposing some of the carcass.
