Need some help!!
Okay let me give you all the rundown. When the choke is on at idle my exhaust pops alittle and when im taking off or cruising I can feel and hear something popping from underneath. My friends dad thinks that it might need a new spark plug and ignition coil. Any thoughts?

Welcome to Ninjette.com, Tyler !!!
We will need more info: How long have you had the bike? Any recent modifications or service work? How continuous is that sound when at speed?

The bike itself is a 2007 and Ive owned it since early 2013. Other than an oil change nothing, the only mods ive done to the bike are turn signals. And the sound is only under acceleration.

It could be electrical or fuel related or valve timing. The easiest thing is to check for any loose wire or connector in the ignition circuit (check all plugs of each coil) and then disconnecting one spark plug cable at a time (leaving plugs in place) to identify the side. If electrons are not to be blamed, jump on the fuel supply system, because that is the sound of fuel starvation. If no luck, then check the valve's gaps or clearances and adjust accordingly. A couple different things come to mind -
Air filter or intake partially plugged. Chain and sprockets are out of adjustment or very worn. You need to try to isolate where the sound is coming from. Is it definitely a popping from the exhaust? When you said the sound comes from "underneath", only during acceleration, I wasn't sure. |

My bike does this when my carbs haven't been cleaned in forever and the pilot jets are a little clogged. Does it happen only at low speed/idle?

Oh yeah, that and seafoam is something I shove in there regularly. Carbs haven't been cleaned in like 4k miles, I'm terminally lazy No additive is a substitute for a good teardown and cleaning...

One treatment of Techron per season should do all the cleaning you need. Techron is a superior cleaner to Seafoam IMO. |
