We come from Earth - Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon

In April, my buddy and I rode our 250s from his place outside of Sacramento to Grand Canyon, and a few places in between. Here are some photos from the trip.

On a dirt road out to my dad's house. I visited my dad before meeting up with my friend, since the whole area is "back home" for me.

A waterfall in Yosemite. I really should have taken more pictures there, so many awesome sights.

Badwater Road, Death Valley. The hardest-looking 250 riders on Earf.

Coyotes on Badwater Road.

More Badwater.

The fantastic road through Zion in Utah.

250s in Zion. Oh, and some Can-Am thing...

Our highest elevation, in Bryce Canyon.

Bryce Canyon is kinda cool...

Overlooking a billion miles of road without a gas station, en route to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon from the South Rim. Colorado River at the bottom.

Both bikes made it.

How else do you suppose I should get firewood to our camp?

And this happened. Thankfully after we'd reached an inhabited town, Barstow, California.

Going home through Big Sur. Good to be back on the coast.

I wrote a blog about the trip. If you want more photos and some clumsy analogies, check out my blog: We come from Earth

I've done solo trips before, between San Francisco and Seattle. It wasn't too bad, but I'm a fairly solitary guy. This trip with a friend was definitely better, and I hope I can do more of them.

These pictures are from three different cameras. 1) iPhone 5, 2) GoPro 2, 3) Canon Rebel XTi.

After I got back from the trip, I sold the Rebel and its lenses and got a bunch of micro 4/3 camera gear, which I'm now anxious to take on a trip. It's much smaller and I think I would've taken more shots if I had it.

Ha, not even close -- did the trip in just over a week.

I'll blame my iPad for the habit

I've been all through the west many times but never on a bike. Pictures are beautiful but there is nothing like seeing it first hand (or eye). I envy you. Altough the pictures don't really show the temperatures.

I went in April, it was cold everywhere but Death Valley, where it was a pleasant 70ish.

Thanks for sharing pictures of my favorite place on earth. Nothing beats the southwest, IMHO.

I just rode through that region a few weeks ago, but only skirted along between Utah and Arizona (saw Powell!) but missed most of Canyonlands. Did the Badwater thing too, at 1am!

The Furnace Creek station is now open 24 hours with credit cards, which helps quite a bit.

Yeah, the Chevron pumps at Furnace Creek are 24 hours with plastic, the store closes stupid early. I had to call down there to make sure they would be open as I was going to be desperate for a time stamped receipt.

Not sure if Stove Pipe pumps are the same, that was too far for me to venture.

We passed one gas station just northwest of Furnace Creek with prices about $1.50 a gallon EXTRA. Yeesh. We were almost that desperate, too.

Yep, that's Furnace Creek! Was over $5/gal when I rode through. First time I was through there was when everyone was pushing mid-$4 to low $5 and Furnace Creek was $7!

I hate how haphazardly the word "epic" is thrown around these days. But those pics are EPIC.
