Hi from Phila area

New rider here... owner of a 2008 Ninja 250 Red. Just got the bike July 3rd, have practiced in lots, got my permit less then two weeks ago..and was lucky enough to register as a 'alternate' for my local MSF class. Accepted (some dummy arrived 20 mins late... I whispered..."Thank you"... half way through the class this Sunday will be the last riding portion and I hope to pass. I feel confident as I'm definitely one of the stronger riders in the class.

Anyone from the Conshohocke, King of Prussia or surrounding Phila area?

welcome Fredie. Check out the member map to look for folks in your area - and keep an eye on the northeast rally thread - it's already passed, but you might find folks close from it

Thank you all for the warm welcome... already can tell this is a forum i'll be visiting often. This has been a new experience for me and I'm thoroughly enjoying ever moment. Still learning but doing very well for a beginner. Have Part 2 of 2 class room MSF portion. Gearing up for the big day this Sunday, I must pass and I think I will.

I checked out the map, although not too many in my immediate area I'm sure I'll find someone willing to ride sometime soon (when I'm ready for the highway etc..)

Blue Tyke where in MD are you? Probably not this summer but definitely next, I plan to ride to OC,MD. Friends of mine and I are going to OC for a week again next summer. I was down there the end of May this year and I saw 189348203 bikes zipping around. Beach and Bikes, what could be better?

Nice, that's cool. I work a lot but I've practiced in a lot for hours and last Saturday was my first ride in the street... went well... although I've come to find out how ignorant motorists are to motorcyclists..

Have you been riding for awhile or? Did you take your MSF class? Absolutely the thing to do... the confidence level and understanding you get from it is unmatched. I recommend doing what I did... sign up as an alternate and pray to the Gods that somebody gets there late..haha..

Yea driving around philly must get annoying with all the traffic, I started riding around my quiet neighborhood and went from there...

I grew up riding dirtbikes from about the age of 12 till I was around 18 (im 25 now) so I have a decent amount of experience on 2 wheels, a street bike is def different but I caught on pretty quick, I have about 400 miles on the bike so far...

I plan on signing up for the MSF course soon, (i am on a learners permit now) when I looked at it a few weeks ago the first available class was September though but I need to stop being lazy and sign up. I did a lot of research and reading into the safest possible ways to ride and proper gear though before I made the plunge...

Good luck with the bike and be careful around those crazy philly drivers

I live near philly, not exactly in the city and if I did..I wouldn't ride there just yet. I'm doing the same thing you are...did a parking lot for a few days... then took it the street. There is traffic, more then I'd like but I've handled it well so far and this is how you learn slowly but with some obstacles to teach you. I actually plan to ride to work on a Saturday or sometime when it's not busy just to get a feel for the ride itself, learn the road, see what hazards their are that I can't seem in my car. Uphill starts are a bit imtimidating and there is one bad stop sign with oncoming traffic and traffic merging in the same place. I've never ridden dirt bikes or any type of motor vehcile beside my car so this is a first...but I'm getting the hang of it a lot faster than I thought I would.
I haven't yet broken a hundred miles on my bike... Bought it with 58 miles on it, have about 138 now... as soon as I get my license...the number will increase. Look up the course again and see if there is an "alternate" spot avail. I would've had to wait til Sept. also but I got lucky. Maybe you would too.
