New Ninja 250

Bought a used, but in immaculate condition '09 Ninja 250 2 days ago. First ride out I'm having a blast, decide to run up to the store to pick up a couple things. Checking out when I hear a thud and a truck driving off having knocked my parked bike over. Snapped the right peg bracket in half, shattered the right turn signal, scuffs on the handlebars and mirror. I had to chase him down to an intersection on foot a few hundred feet away..he said he didn't notice he'd hit it. To the shop she goes. I guess I'm lucky his truck didn't run it over or that I wasn't on it...

Welcome to the forum.
Ouch! Is the truck driver going to be held responsible?

Yeah he was very nice and I feel like he genuinely felt bad about it. He payed for a trailer rental and I'll call him today after getting a couple quotes. I also had an officer file a police report indicating who was at fault in case something goes wrong.

Welcome Dave!

Gratz on the bike but isn't that a kick in the bum? For sure better that you wasn't on the bike at that time. Best of luck with the driver and repairs.

Thats great! Considering the circumstances, I would say that you were lucky! You will get 'er back on the road in no time!

OUch man...welcome...I always hate to hear something like that happening. That's way I hate parking in Parking Lots or Paralel parking, people just don't always see ya or the bike.

Glad you're not hurt and the other guy is willing to help.

Well the shop quoted me at close to $1200.00 They're replacing everything the guy scratched up or broke. Parts were about 600, labor 450 + tax and inspection fee. The truck driver has agreed to pay, but I think she's gonna be tied up in the shop until the end of next week or later while parts are shipped in. I think I need to be reimbursed for my loss of fun as well.

Gawd 450 for labor is ridiculous. You pay for less labor to get an engine rebuild.

Lack of situational awareness strikes again! Sucks that your out a bike for the next week. On the plus side, atleast it was your bike and not a small child. I've heard most/if not all the excuses and still haven't heard a good one for backing into things.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well. If the guy had just swung into the adjacent spot when backing out as he did with my bike and there were a child or someone in a wheelchair, etc... he could have killed them.
