Bike turns off at startup
Hey guys, so I picked up my 250 less than a week ago and I've had this issue twice. (I'm completely new to riding)
So I'll put my key in the ignition, flip the switch on and press the start button. The bike will start like normal but then when I try to rev it up while its still in neutral, the engine just cuts off. I feel like I'm doing something wrong here. Can someone give me their take on it. Edit: Also other times I start it, it starts up just fine and I am able to ride it with no problems. |

Let's assume everything is fine first. To start the bike, pull the choke and start it up. Let it run until the idle revs up (normally around 3k rpm), then push the choke back. The idle should return to 1200-1700. Proceed riding only when the bike will accept throttle input without dying. Overall process takes about 1-2 minutes.
EDIT: On a hot day or if the bike is still warm from a previous ride, you may not need to use the choke. You will know because as soon as you start the bike, it will instantly rev to around 3k prm. Assuming something is up. I just fixed this problem on a bike today. Has the bike been sitting around for a long time? If so, your gunna have to clean the carbs and ensure the airbox and filter clean too.

Are you always supposed to use the choke to start up the bike? (This is my first time hearing about this, sorry about my noobiness)
I'll take a look at the airbox and carbs in the morning. Thanks csmith. |
