Dumbest things you've heard from "experienced" riders

-That helmet is too big on you.

Actually, this helmet fits me perfectly. Sure, I'm short and it looks odd on me but it fits perfectly. My face/ cheek moves as I move the helmet (supposedly good way to tell if it fits perfectly) but it's not tight to the point that it's uncomfortable or distracting. It's also ECE/ DOT certified and only a year old.

-I just bought a helmet for like $60 from that China store

While I may consider their padded gear, I would never consider a helmet that isn't from a reputable brand especially if it only promises to be DOT certified.

-You should learn to ride without gloves.

...Do I have to explain why this is a stupid thing to say?

-You should've started on a 600 [sport bike], that motorcycle is a bicycle with an engine

...This is conditional but I'm a small guy and I've never had a motorcycle before. As for the bike comment, this can pull 90 comfortably on the highway. Try that on a bike.

What's yours?

This is the first thing my biker friends said to me, I always reply that my bike gets 60 miles to the gallon and that I own the title because it was cheap enough to pay with cash.

Yeah that mpg might actually keep me on my 250r for a good, lonnngggg while.

If I can get the gas economy of a Prius while still having a zippy vehicle that can still take on 90% of vehicles on a quarter mile run I see no reason to get anything bigger besides just wanting to be faster which isn't always the smartest factor to consider -- though that reserved power is very much useful to a guy that can hold off on the power and not treat everyday roads like a gp track.

You will get bored of the 250 in a month and will want to upgrade.

Turns out, the 250 does almost everything pretty well that I want it to do. I have been riding the 250 for over a year now and I still have to hit the rev limiter and also have huge chicken strips. Once I tame this beast, only then I will consider crashing the 250 and getting a R6.

I love the whole crashing before you upgrade scenario, but why an R6?

It's one of the inside jokes we have here. One guy totaled his 250 then bought himself an R6 a while back.

I see, I would have stuck with the parallel twin engined bikes my self just to continue to get the great mileage.

I remember last summer when I was looking at a bike, I went to the local motorsports shop to sit on bikes, and the sales guy there said:

Well.. as it turns out.. I fit just fine on the 250, I have no problem doing 95 tucked (which is 20 over here in california), and I had every intention of keeping this for the long haul.

"I'd never recommend parking lots unless the person has no idea on how to get the bike moving or stopping at all. As soon as you can get your feet up in a straight line, its time to stick to the streets."

With people like this around it is no wonder why so many new riders crash early on.

Butt hurt much?

When I saw that Motofool gave him way better advice than me, I shut my mouth and left that topic. I realized there is a huge difference between riding in India and in the US. We don't spend time riding around in lots. Only the women do that here and I'm not saying that to belittle women or anything Its just a fact. Still there are girls like my good friend Irene who has more balls than most guys. She too started riding on the streets, not in a parking lot and to my knowledge haven't crashed yet even though she's been on two wheels just as long as I have.

grow up dude

You guys have bad salesmen there, the sales dudes where I live are like "WOAH WOAH, 600? Nonono, you need this 250, this is the BEST BEGGINER BIKE"

Then they know in 6 months when you may get bored of it, guess where you're gonna buy your 600? lol

Really? I didn't know that.

As for the cow thing, lmao... Its only there in northern states. Every state in India is like a different country. I'm form the south, and here if a cow even looks at us funny, we'd eat it XD

Jokes aside, I live in the city and the only cows I get to see is in the form of beef or if they are being transported for slaughter which is rather depressing.

Glad to know there are some good ol' red blooded cow eating Indians over there
