Pre-Gen Track Bike Conversion Pics

So I did one track day and now I'm taking my 250 off the streets and making it a dedicated track day bike. This is what I've done so far:

Pirelli Diablo scooter tires
Lithium Ion light weight battery
Galfer front and rear coated stainlness steel braided teflon brake lines
Motul 600 brake fluid
EBC HH pads front and rear
Headlight removed (have to fabricate a block off plate to replace the headlight)
Directional signals removed
Brake light disconnected
Oil and filter changed, screen cleaned
Woodcraft rearsets
Woodcraft lowered risers
Muzzy exhaust (already on bike when I bought it)

I installed the folding levers today. It took about 30 to do and test. They seem to be of good quality and went in easily. I also removed the gauge cluster housing to give more room for handlebars and levers at full lock.

I need to find something to cover the hole left when I removed the head light.

Nice! Looking good

Just wanted to say thank you for posting the pre-gen stuff. Got myself a '99 not too long ago that came with a ton of spares & I'm looking to get it on track in the near future as well. I am a total beginner when it comes to this stuff and having your pictures to reference, etc. is great.

Where in KY are you? If you're close to me, I can give ya lots of help along the way. Heck, maybe even catch a ride with me to the track.

Thanks Chris!

oh, I'm way down in the western part of KY near Kentucky Lake....big metropolitan area, hehe. I really, really appreciate the offer of help as I'm almost surely gonna need some to get this ball rolling. My initial thoughts were to have this thing ready for WERA @ NCM in August but I'm pretty certain they pulled it off the calendar.

sorry Mike K, not meaning to threadjack

oh!! also, if it's purely a track bike:

- ditch the radiator fan
- ditch the rear pegs
- strip down the wiring harness (will take some serious time)
- ditch the ignition, replace with resistor. Not sure of resistance value, check on wiring diagram, it says there.
- ditch left hand controls. ain'y nobody got time for that.
- ditch rear grab handle
- take off tail light
- ditch horn
- emulators/intiminators

any other quick ones I missed?

Hey, something you might be interested in. I finally had some time to play with my brakes and get them bedded well. I recently switched to a Ninja 650 master. It's a 5/8" cylinder instead of a 1/2". The size is marked on the unit. Identical externally to the 250 MC, mounts the same, uses the same fittings and hoses, even uses the same lever. It's a straight swap.

Makes the brake lever more firm, but the brakes have some ass on them with not nearly as much effort as before. So if you get comfortable braking and find yourself squeezing the lever way further than you like, to the point of cramping your hand up like I did and/or bottoming out the lever, make the Ninja 650 MC swap. It's cheap and easy and two finger braking is finally possible for me, finesse on the lever is still easy as well.

I'll check that out. I'm doing two-finger braking now. I actually started doing it on the GSX R750 because the throttle spring is so light that just correcting hand position or hitting a bump would burp the throttle. I keep two fingers on the brake to stabilize my wrist. On the track I've only used brake to ease strain on the engine when I do clutchless down shifts. We ran Lightning in reverse yesterday. After the first lap I was using only 5th and 6th gear.

I did more work on the Ninja the other day to make it faster. I painted it red, got it to make 100hp, and put some R6 stickers on it.

Tee hee

Nice, I'll be checking back with this thread to steal some ideas. I love seeing examples of the rear sets and lowered risers and I will be going with them when the time comes.

For the front number plate check here http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/...2501988-06.htm

What are you doing for a belly pan? I just finished up one for my race ninja that I fashioned out of a cake pan mounted up to the stock lower fairing mounts.
