First Year - What I've Learned
I won my bike year ago and thought I would do a post on what I've learned in the first year as a noob.
MSF - take it. You won't be the only one there who has very little experience. ATGATT - why wouldn't you want to do this? Most of your body parts cannot be restored to like new. ATIATT - once again, not worth saving a few bucks if you ever do have to use it. This site is great for asking questions and getting information - lots of people here who have mountains of information. Don't be afraid to ask! Seat time is the best teacher! The only way to get comfortable on your bike and learn how it handles is by riding it. Do not ride above your level and don't let other people push you to ride above your level. If it feels uncomfortable, don't do it. You'll get better as time passes. Riding with other bikes - this has helped me with knowing when to brake, downshift, etc. It's especially helpful if you have headset communication and have someone who is willing to answer questions about what they're doing on the bike and why as you're going down the road. Hot tar is slippery, rain gear is important, defensive riding/driving is critical. Check your equipment every time you ride! AND MOST OF ALL - WHAT A GREAT WAY TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! |
