Flush mounts too small...

So while I was out today I came across a pair of flush mount signals for $20. They looked like they would be just the right size and the salesman said they should work fine. Well, I'm sure they do work fine, but they don't fit. Is there any ideas on what I can do to make these work, or do I just need for fork over more than $20 for turn signals? And the reason they're being replace is because one has been broken for about 10 months now and I got tired of looking at it.

This shows a small gap between the top and bottom, and the width doesn't have much overlap.

And this is positioned high enough to actually have the adhesive hold from the top.

Any ideas?

Get a sheet pf black plastic, cut to fit the original recess, stock the new part to it, then use double-sided tape to stick the cut piece into the recess. Use the high strength tape.

Thanks for the suggestions. I bought some stuff last week and I'm finally going to try and get it installed tomorrow since I have the day off. I looked all over the place for a sheet of black plastic and had no luck finding any. Everyone I asked at the stores didn't seem to know where I could find some either; I'm sure I made it more difficult than it should have been though. I eventually came across this round piece in the plumbing section of OSH and figured it would work. It's about 1/4" thick and I'll be able to cut out a couple pieces that will hopefully fit right into the socket.

This is what I have to work with. Dremel, mounting tape, turn signal that's too small, and some random piece of plastic found in plumbing department.

I'm hoping to have a final product to show you tomorrow. I probably would have been better off spending $80-$100 on ones that would fit right out of the box, but this has cost me under $30 so far.

If you still have the stock turn signal stalk, use the base as an outline and just outline it bigger. Then hack the stalk so you will have something solid to mount the light.... Or whatever you had in mind.

Hadn't thought of that. I might give that a try. Originally I was just going going to cut out an oval and round it off so it was just a tad bit smaller than the opening and then line opening with the mounting tape and kinda force it in there. This might give it a bit more of a firmer foundation, so I'll probably give it a try and see how it goes.

I'm looking at the Proton flush mount's. What is the thing that needs to be installed for LED lights to work. Recommendations on which one to buy, where to get it and installation tips appreciated. Do you need to install a second on for the tail light, and auxillary lights???

I finally got around to finishing my turn signals. For the past couple weeks I have been driving around with one flushmount and one oem turn signal. It looked pretty silly... So here's my update on it:

I found out that I suck at carving stuff out with a Dremel, so I ended up using this little plastic piece that came off of one of my daughter's old car seats.

And here's the final product:

It's definitly not the prettiest, but it's much better than the broken signal with chunks missing from it.
