Back in the saddle, FINALLY!!!
Hi, just joined up so thought I'd say a few words. I'm back on two wheels again after an 8 yr break to raise a large family. I'm a cruiser head at heart but beggers can't be choosers and I just bought a cheap Marauder 125 non runner and got it going and what a pile of s##t!!! Last bike was a shadow 1100. Now a friend of mine had a long term project going nowhere, so he gave it to me, it's a gpx 250 '88. and after stripping it and re-building from the ground up I needed loads a bits, the engine had never been heard running by anyone. So I found a cheap zzr 250 '92 and thought I could get the bits I needed from it. WRONG!!!.The tank is different and the bar wiring totally different, so I started stripping the zzr and re-built it from the ground up. Getting pretty sick of this ground up thing at this stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So long story a little shorter, I now own a gpx/zzr 250 thing streetfighter, looks great(in my eyes anyway). She runs well and wow what a lot of fun I've had in 2 short test drives, I'm thinking I wasted years on cruisers(no only kidding). As with all older bikes the course of true love is never smooth and Maryln is no different, thats my blonde bombshell zzr by the way. I'll probably drop in to chat only when we fall out and the spanners are needed for some attitude readjustment. I've changed carbs twice as idling was erratic and she was hard to start when hot. Fitted gpx carbs as the idle screw is easier to get at as zzr carb has a water pipe thing in the way, so will try that today and read a good thread from a member already. Fitted a fuel filter last night and f##ked the running altogether until I pulled it off again, don't know if I fitted it wrong or what, and when I get her running sweet the clutch is slipping so has to be done. A quick question about cheaper friction plates, what is so bad about them exactly as swaying towards them, remember the shoe string.Anyway that's me,and I'm looking forward to chatting and learning with you folks, and hopefully a few hours with Maryln screaming between my legs!!

Thanks all for the warm welcome, Johnny bravo, I've had nothing but sleepless nights since starting the projects, and the rewards have been 50 glorious miles. Have clutch apart at the moment with the dreaded slip. I'm only after reading that springs go long before plates and mine are no differ. Bad news is I have new set of plates paid for and on order, the moral being look before you leap. I have some 2mm shims being made to go under springs so when all is back to gether should be as tight as a nuns........Habit.
