Pregen Track Tires

What has everyone used and their reviews? I right now am figuring the top options are BT45s and Sport Demons or Diablo Scooters. Maybe someone has tracked the avons or kendas or whatever with good results.

In fairness these are not likely going on a pregen but on my XR100SM that has 16 inch wheels. The "go to" tire for these things is the BT45 but a couple things have me thinking about other options. One is the $100+ per tire cost and the other is the 100/90 or 110/90 sizing option on a very narrow wheel.

The Pirelli are about 25% cheaper and the Kenda/Avons 40% cheaper. I have some ML75s on there now and they are really really terrible. I figure if a Pregen with 25 whp and 350lbs can go around the track well on a tire then a 200lb 7.5hp mini will not have too much issue lol.

The only one I would add to your first list of 3 is the MT75's, but not sure if that's what you already mean with ML75?

Ah - didn't realize the pirelli scooters = ML75. I thought those were the bees knees for the older bikes, so if those are so disappointing, I'm wondering if any of the others on the list would satisfy.

Years ago, the MT75's were evidently chosen for trackdays/amateur racing on the pre-gens, but what may have been considered a good tire then might be up against different expectations, compared to modern rubber.

Yeah, not going to lie. I rode on some of those Pilot Street radials recently and on hot roads, they're almost as good as the diablo scoots but last 6x longer.

So I can only imagine how good a properly sticky radial would be and how much I'm missing out on.

Step 1: Remove 16 inch wheels.
Step 2: Replace with 17 inch wheels.

The sport demons are the best you can get afaik, they tend to melt and overheat bit at track pace though in my experience

They're amazing, I got to ride on @csmith12's #511 and the grip was every bit as good as the grip from my Q3s on my gsx-r (mentally it felt like there was more grip bc the gsx-r was scaring me with potential for oil on the rear tire at any time)

The streets feel better than the scoots to me, though suspension differences may be at play there

this is much easier said than done, I've been looking into doing this for a while

Do you run into the same issue that I do with the tires overheating (particularly the front under braking) and slipping a bit as a result

I've added cold pressure to try to prevent this but it hasn't quite worked

I run intermediate track day pace and have just been assuming that I've been riding harder than the tires were meant for

A motoseries rider was laying down some nice lap times down on the demons. Just a few seconds slower than me on the super corsa/rosso II combo.

Lol. The scoots and demons are nearly the same build and compound. Only major difference that makes the scooter tires "for scooters" is the sizes theyre available in. Mine have done nicely in I pace as well as lots of spirited road use.

The BT45s are $110 a tire and so are the Sport Demons. The Diablo scoots are $80 a tire. The Shinko 714s are $20 a tire. LOL. It's all relative.

I don't think I could trust $20 tires....

Scoots seem to be your best deal, they're very similar to the demons. Bt45s are more of a long lasting street tire

LOL, well the $40 ML75s have 1 day on them and I don't trust them enough to want to keep them lol. So a $20 Shinko is out lol. The BT45s are the go to race tire for a XR100 with 16s so they actually stick really really well, but I don't really want to drop $220 on a set if a $160 set of Diablo Scoots will get me similar performance.

Really, I wasn't aware the BT45 was respected at all as a race tire. The 003 I see but not the 45. I'd recommend the scoots, if they're anything like the demons then you'll be good to go

Yeah, BT45's really aren't bad at all. I rode on those for a while. But they wore funny after about 6000 miles... YMMV

You stated that your running them on an Xr100sm. Are you running an XR 80 front rim or an XR100 rear rim laced to your front hub?

I was getting very confused reading this thread, so if it helps anyone else, here's what I learned. Pirelli ML75 is a scooter/moped tire, but it's crap for actual motorcycles. The ML75 is a moped tire, OEM on some of the 50cc tiny scooters. ML75 is not the same thing as the Pirelli Diablo Scooter tire. The Diablo Scooter is designed for the maxi scooters, with more weight and power than some of our 250's. People seem to like it quite a bit on our bikes, behaving in some ways like a more modern version of the Sport Demon.

xr80 front rim, its really narrow. I may in the future lace a 100 rear hoop to the hub but since I have two 80 wheels complete I never bothered.

only a race tire for xr100 mini supermotos cause .. well....that's the best that available I guess. well, its what most people run, it that qualifies it as "best'

yes, that is correct. sorry for the confusion. i tried the ML75s cause they were cheap and someone said they were "not that bad" ....... they were mistaken.

Ok, here's the rundown on BT's. First off they are the best tire for xr100 super moto racing. When running the xr80 front wheel you'll need to run a 100/90 which is the H rated tire. If you run the xr100 rear on the front you could run the 110/90 on the front. The 110/90 comes in both H rated or V rated. The difference is the sidewall stiffness, the V being stiffer, this comes in handy when running 15psi of tire pressure. Run the 110/90 V on the rear regardless. The 100/90 is prone to loosing traction when pushed hard the 110/90 on the front has been said to be uncrashable.

Don't let a few $$ stand between you having a good time or a crappy one. When it comes to racing an xr100 the tires are the best modification you can make.
