My gear is exclusively Fulmer helmets, Fieldsheer jackets, pants, and gloves, Oxtar boots, and Bohn amour.

All of which have served me well.

No. There use Tri-composite also which is a mix of kevlar, CF, and fiberglass (i think).

Love my Nexx helmet but @alex.s has a personal vendetta against the brand.

Knox biomech gloves hold up super well.

I crashed on the freeway in my Icon Overlord Prime jacket and, though I'm sure I slid on the back of it, I can't find any markings on it. The only way you'd know I crashed is that a patch disappeared off the arm.

Your boots look okay? If not Sidi/Alpinestars also make good ones. ST Airs (Sidi) or maybe SMX-plus or SMX-5s (A*s).

i have personally taken an axe (literally) to a plastic shelled helmet and spent ... what was it, 45 minutes? before we were able to get through. how quickly does CF shatter? i haven't had the chance to take an axe to one yet, but i'd be willing to bet it would not be nearly as durable. i will stick with a plastic polycarbonate shell. but you have fun thinking that 1lbs saving is worth risking your head.

There are so many cheaper ways to cut weight too, like salads

I don't like the idea of a carbon fiber shell protecting my head until I see some form of impact testing that proves it is as durable or more durable than the standard shells

everything i've read about CF says, when perfectly made, its better and lighter. however- it is nearly impossible to perfectly make it. there are always inclusions and tiny imperfections. would you trust something mass produced that requires such high tolerance? the tolerances on polycarb is so massive that you could basically never worry about it, even after dropping that **** all the time.

Love the salads line, as I've always said, the cheapest hp gain, is to go on a diet in most case, yours truly included.

Agreed

I know the facts about CF, lots of exotic cars have CF frames, body panels etc.... But they are all handmade as far as I know, not mass produced.

Maybe someday they will get it right for mass production, but not today, that's for sure, I've grown very attached to my head over the years, and plan to keep it for many more to come.

now if only we knew how much weight equals 1hp

I don't quite trust the 7lbs = 1hp "rule of thumb" as that would change based on the power to weight ratio of the bike + rider

HP to weight ratio.

If the average person is 180lbs, then I'm 52lbs over that, without gear, personally I'm about 30lbs over for my build.

I like polycarb better than carbon fiber, too just because im familiar with both materials and polycarb is much more rugged, but i think the appeal of having a lighter helmet is less whiplash/risk of a broken neck, not increased power. You could also argue that theres less fatigue, but ive almost never had any discomfort resulting from my helmet. Just playing devil's advocate.

you break your neck from hitting things, not from whiplash

they also feel like pillows surrounding your head
but the quick change visors break really easily on impact in comparison to other helmets

I didn't notice much difference from my Shoei. The chin cushions air pump is also a nice touch.

I've never had a shoei/arai but I can see why those would be as comfortable since you're paying so much for them. I'm comparing to the hjc cl16 and an icon airmada. Of the three the hjc was the worst helmet (and cheapest by far) but the airmada feels safest and the scorpion felt the most comfortable at a similar price point

I really like my agv skyline that I purchased for ~ $160. It is snell and passes the european safety standards. Built in sunglasses visor and the vents are pretty good all of which you can open or close. Every now and than the quick release chin strap is a bit uncomfortable and I also don't really care for the chin piece for cooler climates but it is removable.

Get yourself a HJC RPHA 10 helmet. Its an excellent helmet at a price point that cant be beaten and may be cheaper if you call RidersDiscount and ask for a price quote.

Thinking about getting something lighter, but I may end up getting another airmada, flat black this time though.

If I don't, someone can have my unused tinted visor.

Two thousand.

I'm thinking about the alpinstars jaws leather jacket , Revit enterprise overpants, agv skyline or horizon, Held phantom gloves, and smx plus goretex boots.
