Got my 250!
Hey guys, just found the forum and coincidentally I bought a Ninja 250 today ! Heres the ad:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/mcy/2691998571.html I paid the full asking price which I thought was fair, the bike runs great and had me grinning ear to ear. I think it's perfect for my first/city bike. I have a question, the last owner didn't have a manual (I have one on order) their i a black footpeg that goes down when you push on it near the right exhaust, can someone tell me what this is used for ? Also while I was riding the oil light came up, I'm assuming just add some oil to the reservoir ? Sorry for the newb questions and thanks for any help, take it easy. |

Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the forum!
Are you talking about the passenger footpegs? |

Welcome and great looking bike!
1st.... Stop running the engine/riding until you can ensure you have the proper amount of oil. Can you explain more or take a pick of this foot peg your referencing? You should only have 4 pegs, two for you, two for your passenger.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to the passenger footpegs. They can be removed if you don't need/want them.

LMAO, you guys crack me up, I know what the rear brake is.
CBDallas much thanks for the picture, it is the most left arrow which I guess is the passenger footpegs. Being 6'2 250lbs, riding with a passenger was not in my mental process, I rode the bike a few blocks yesterday and had a blast now I'm awaiting all my gear to really start riding. I can foresee a NYC pothole magically appearing on one of my local streets just to bust my ass haha Any remarks on the oil light ? And also would it be possible to switch the newer(much sexier) fairings onto this body style, thanks for the great help so far |

I wouldn't say it's exactly a stretch to assume the guy doesn't know what the rear brake is if he can't identify the passenger pegs...
The oil light -- well you could top it off but when you buy a new (yet used) bike it's always a good idea to do an oil change, clean and lube the chain, switch out all fluids in general etc. Now's a good time to get your hands dirty! As for the fairings the best way for you to switch to the newgen plastics would be to first sell your current ninja and then buy an 08+ Sorry, you can't switch them! There are plenty of good looking pre-gens out there though. Glad you're having fun and welcome to the community! |

Yea I was gonna do a full oil change on it anway....
What I don't understand about the rear footpegs is why do they move ? to accommodate different size passengers I'm assuming ? The garage wants 200$ a month to store it, wtf ? I mean I know its NYC but a bike is like 1/5 a car and a car is 400 sooo mathematically its screwed. |

The footpegs fold to move them out of the way, more or less. They're either open or closed there isn't really adjustability for them.

Thanks spartanturtle.
Ok guys, now I'm really confused. The black footpeg I am referring to is not the passenger footpegs, I went and looked at the bike today. It is on the left side (I said right earlier because I was going off my memory) and their is not another one on the other side. It is a black, spring loaded metal circle footpeg, its a few inches lower then the pass. footpegs, near where the triangle brace is on the picture above. |

It's likely your center stand.
As for the oil light, that's worth being concerned over. |

Nice...looks just like my old 250! If the previous owner kept her low on oil (so did mine) I'm sure they neglected to maintain her properly as well! You'll be surprised how much better of a bike it actually is when it's running at it's full potential! Congrats~

What I paid was $4678 out the door
my bike is a 2010 ninja 250 SE green. looks like blinky cabs or spartanturtle333 bike on you tube. It was a hard color to get herein az I bought in sept 2010 at end of year and almost waited for the white SE but am glad i did not wait the dealers had none but blue and red(CRIPS?BLOODS?) and hosed my bud for $6000 on the 2011 model so I did not steal it but am very happy with the bike and my deal(my pal can't read a contract to save his life kelly's kawasaki in mesa AZ even charged the fool for a spare tire and paint protection). I really believe this bike is all you ever need. I have driven my bike 9448 miles total and is my second bike my first was an 1100cc kawasaki that was not good to learn on and had it not burned in a freak accident I probably would not be here today. 250 forver . PS so glad i did not get the honda 250 now too.

only 2 miles were on my 2010 ninja 250
If your asking about that 1100cc kawaski (I earned on and spontaneously caught fire)bike I think it was on only 14000 miles but it was harsh NY State where 10,000 miles is a 10 year old bike and what not. I wish I never bought this mp3 250 ie another new bike I bought this past august 2011, I put 1886 miles on my scooter and almost 9500miles on my ninja. I think they(NINJA 250) are the smartest most economical(as long as you avoid the hospital/casket), bike you can buy here in The USA. I drive mostly hi-way and my average RPM from day one is 10,000 RPM. I broke my bike in by riding it at varying speed, as my speed limit here in the sticks is 75mph, that break in procedure didn't work for me. AND the bike burns zero oil and I change it every 4500 miles now thaat it is broken in. AMS oil is my JASO MA oil of choice now.

I ended up paying the full 1300 for it. He wasn't negotiable and I was excited to find a bike in such close proximity to me. It has 12.186 when I bought it (12,480 now ). He did the full 12000 mile tune up recently, both front fairings have been replaced too and theirs a dent in the gas tank but the bike starts first time always and is mechanically sound, no hiccups at all so I wasn't hesitant to pay him the full 1300 (I'm not gonna lie I was super anxious to buy the bike and just payed him haha he might have dropped it a little if I worked on him).
