1st traffic ticket.
Today I got my first traffic ticket for motorcycle riding. I was riding on 110 freeway and did lane split between the right 1st lane and 2nd lane. The right 1st lane is the exit lane to Temple St. The motorcycle police officer is about 200 feets in front of me. When he got close to the exit, he tried to pull several cars that cut in from the exit lane to the 2nd lane. Only one car in front of him was stopped and parked on the shoulder. At that time I was changing to the 2nd lane just before the solid white lane. Then The police pulled me over. I asked him why I was pulled over, he said I didn't follow the exit lane to exit. I told him I did lane split between the the car and line split is legal in California. During the time he checked my drive licence and registration card, The parked car in front of me ran away and the police officer didn't do any thing. he continued to focus on me and finally asked me to sign to appear in court.
I will fight the ticket and appear in the court. Hopefully the officer won't show up. |

I can't remember if it was South or North Dakota that we learned he car we had at the time (1974 Gran Torino, loved that car) felt the same whether we were doing 60mph or 90mph. Luckily there were no cops to see, and we got slowed down to where we belonged....
Sorry you got pulled over. I don't generally split on the right side of the roads, nor near exit ramps, and not when there's only one line of cars, like on an exit. I don't remember the specific geography of downtown there, and I know the 110 is a mess for a lot of its length, but there might be a better way to do it next time. |

So, go back and get photo & videos of the area. Work up aerial diagrams of road section in question using Google Maps. Draw your path on the diagram showing where your tyres were on the road. Lane-splitting has nothing to do with this violation. The contention is whether you changed lanes before it went to solid line. You might be able to argue that since the officer's line-of-sight was from directly ahead of you, he may not have been able discern the exact moment the line went solid relative to your position. |
