powder coated wheels
I'm thinking about getting my bike's wheels powder coated. It's a black '07 with the red flame decals (still in good shape) from the factory. I don't hate the decals, but I dno't love em either. I was thinking if the wheels were powder coated red, the bike would really look sharp. To those who have had their wheels powder coated: Are they easier to clean than the bare metal wheels? Also, have you had any issued with the balance weights not staying on? Thanks!

There are a few folks on the site who are able to powder-coat wheels, and a few more who have had it done.

I use 3m doublesided tape on my powder coated surfaces... same as wheel weights. doesn't seem to have any trouble. cleaning powder coat is not as easy as bare metal because you can really go crazy on bare metal, especially aluminum... you need to at least kinda half-way respect the powder coat. by that i mean, don't take the wire-brush grinder to it expecting to get that smudge off.

clean your powder coated wheels like you would painted wheels. While powder coating is generally more durable than paint, it is still a plastic covering and can be scratched and damaged. However it generally stands up better to the occasional rock and such much better than paint.
Ill be posting up when mine are done. I will be doing them myself. (the first link Alex gave you is my shop)

I have a coworker who is also a motorcycle enthusiast, so I rode my bike to work last week for him to see. He doesn't know much about sport bikes - he's more into cruisers - but he really liked my ninjette and was surprised that it it's a 2007 because it's so clean. I told him I was thinking about getting the wheels powdercoated red and he just said "dude, that will make it look like a toy." Now I'm thinking he might be right!
