140 rear tire upgrade
Hello everyone. Im thinking about upgrading my rear tire to a 140.does anyone know if I will have to change the rim as well?has anyone had it done?and are there any complications with the tire rubbing or not fitting properly? I mean I know the bike will handle a little differently but I guess im asking you guys if you think its a stupid idea or if its ok.thanks for any input.positive and negative comments welcome.

A 140 will work fine on the stock rim.

Stock 09 rim will work just fine. The positive and negative effects are dependent upon the riders feel and preferences.

Do you think its a stupid idea?I personally like the beefier look of the 140 but will I be sacrificing much on handling?

No, it's not a dumb idea. Many riders/racers here roll on 140's. You shouldn't notice much difference in handling. The only real difference I have noticed is you have to give it a bit more muscle in the chicanes to flick it over. But still... it's a 2fiddy, she still flops over easy like a cheap hooker, just with a bigger butt.

those hookers with the rear ends are the best. and by more muscle you mean its more likely to slip out from under me?or does traction improve?

More muscle as in a harder countersteering input push and as I transition across the seat and lock back on in a fast chicane, I use my knee to push the bike over faster to get it on line and at the lean angle I want.
Does traction improve?.... good question. I know it just feels better to me. Your results may vary on how it feels to you.

I run 150 and I love it (minus the huge chicken strips) its much more stable. For example, there's a bridge that connects long beach to san pedro and there are grooves on those two bridges. On stock tires, when I go over the bridge and over those grooves, the bike is basically being told where to go depending on those grooves which is a little annoying and scary. After I got the 150 tire, I went right over them without any movement. Plus I feel a lot more confident leaning over. You'll be fine with a 140 with stock rim if I can fit a 150. I received a lot of crap from people about the tire size but it feels good to me.. knee drag without any problems and can still flick it around. Plus my tire (battlax hypersport s20) is more round than stock so it helps go into the corners a lot faster and harder. Good luck man.
