Most common motorcycle injuries
I came across this article on Rideapart and I thought I would share. The article contains statistics on the most common motorcycle injuries according to a few studies that were done. These might be good things to consider as you buy gear.
The most common motorcycle accident bone breaks are to the: tibia, fibula, femur, radius, ulna, and humerous. The legs are especially vulnerable. I gotta say I was surprised that breaks to the hip, wrist and ankle were not more common. So, when it comes to gear: - calf high boots with armor that covers the tibia/ fibula is important. - Hip armor which extends down the thigh is the only thing I could think of to protect the femur. - Long elbow pads that extend down the forearm and gloves with guantlets should protect the radius/ulna. - Not sure about the humerous, good should pads and thick leather I suppose. Something to keep in mind when I go to put on my kevlar jeans with no armor

They are, as well as to abrasions and lacerations.
It seems absurd that TV shows and movies continue propagating the idea of protecting the upper body alone: black leather jacket and blue jeans are the most sold image of a motorcyclist.

Hurt in every drop, the severity of the injury and recovery time varies wildly by rider

Makes me wonder wHat sort of non collision injuries motorcycle riders are prone to like wrists and lower back or maybe fingers squished in between the brake clutch & handle bar or handlebar and tank.

I don't even care that there aren't more twisted ankles and other foot injuries: My bikes were at home today when I twisted my ankle badly and wished I had been wearing my riding boots.
I was walking around a parking lot and stepped off a curb onto uneven pavement (dips in the corner where asphalt meets concrete). I won't be able to walk for several days at least and a motorcycle wasn't even involved. |

Use lots of ice for that injury and keep the foot up as much time as possible.
Get well soon

Or if I bought a Harley seems all I'd have to wear is a black t-shirt
On a more serious note one of my riding friends is a judge and he told me he is amazed and the number of bikers who have chin injurys, seems they either have no helmets or open face ones and during the accident they crash into the pavement face first. |

The article is wrong....
The most common injury is one that cannot be seen but is definately felt. It's not painful but is just as hurtful. Unfortunately, there is no gear you can buy to protect it. It can be amputated, but with enough effort can be reattached. You are not whole without it, but will not effect your daily life if it's gone. The most common injury is to your pride. lol
