Valve Adjustment then bike malfunction.
Ninja 250 2009
37,000 miles, 4th valve adjustment. Shoot for middle adjustment/ on the looser side. Spark plugs new, gapped and look normal. Snorkel off, KN Pod. 2 washers under my needles, 108 main Jet I think. Carbs have been thoroughly cleaned, didnt need it but that was my first move. Fuel mix screws out 2.75 turns out. Synced to the best of my ability using a slack tube with atf. Fuel always premium with some SeA Foam. There was maybe 1 shot glass full of water in the bottom of my tank that I syphoned out. Ok, so I let my bike sit for 2 months before I did my 4th valve adjustment in December. Temps avg around 30 deg in the winter. Had to adjust 2 exhausts and 2 inlets, nothing out of the ordinary. Although I didn't break anything this time. Replaced my battery for the first time as well. Had the bike back together, started up great. Rided great for like 10-15 min and then starts to surge around 8k RPM. (Sometimes the TACH will redline all the way even though I know my RPMS are not that high) Then it will die at stops and wont start or stay running unless I keep it revving....... Now it wont start at all. I havent adjusted the floats in my carb, so thats next on my list. Other then adjusting the floats, does this sound like a problem anyone has had and fixed? Can anyone explain the TACH going berzerk? Thanks Jeff |

First things first... check the connections to the battery. Many oddities can be associated with loose connections. I am feeling it's not that simple though, but I can hope for you.

Fishdip, when its redlining in your scenario, the engine will actually be working that hard at 5mph?
Just for clarification, mine would be on the highway and lets say I downshift because traffic is slowing up, and when I accelerate to get back up to speed the tachometer goes crazy and the needle goes past the redline. The tach needle is buried and I am literally flying with airplanes.......OK, so I am not flying, but the needle does bury itself. |
