Hi all, I'm no stranger to forums but I just bought a 2007 ninja 250 that was too good a deal to pass up so here I am. The clymer manual is on the way and I've started to look into what its going to take to pass inspection. Forums like these have been invaluable to me in the past, alerting me to common problems like a failed fuel petcock that can ruin a DR350 so I'm glad I found this.

Welcome
The petcock can fail in these also. But no a common problem. The only advice I would give to a new ninja owner is to make sure you don't put the long fairing screw into the tank. It is fairly common to punch a hole in the tank with the wrong screw.

thank you! I'll keep that in mind. I have the fairing bolts laid out with the pieces they go with. I got one bent clip on and I see them selling bent ones all over ebay lol. I'm considering just buying a new oem for 50$ I got the key code figured out today because of this site and ordered 2 keys, so Ninjette is already saving me money!

Cool

Thanks all! I was cleaning up some stuff and putting my triple tree back together and I thought to myself, "I should make sure this goes through all the gears" I can't start it right now because I don't have the key yet and started to freak out when I saw it wouldn't go into 2nd. Then I googled it and found out it won't shift except 1st and neutral when the engine isn't running. And I found it out on Ninjette

The engine running has nothing to do with it. The back wheel just needs to be moving. If you ever need to bump start it, second is the gear you want.

My point is, unlike the other 7 bikes I've had, you can't put this bike on the center stand and rock the rear wheel back and forth by hand with the engine off and work the gear shift through all the gears. Its a completely different animal. Because of the positive neutral finder. And that was very disconcerting at first.
