well another one bites the dust
I feel this guy target locked. I think that's the correct way of saying that he had his focus on a certain object and therefore not being able to turn away. correct me if im wrong.
but I do feel that if he had not "target locked" he would have made this turn without going off the road. thought's? |

his turn ins were so early that I knew **** was going to go wrong when I started up the video. Helped that I saw it 2-3 years ago.
It's funny how much more I know about riding now that makes me understand just how much this guy was ****ing up before he crashed and how it screams "I'm going to crash soon" He was going to crash at some point during this ride almost no matter what with how far beyond his limits he was riding. The problem wasn't target locking, it was going "I can't make this turn" (it was definitely possible at that speed, but not for his skill level) and then just going off the road and losing it in gravel (not hard to do when panic braking from that kind of speed) He had a lot of problems with his riding though, got lucky that he crashed into an open field rather than into the cliffside or an oncoming car with the ****** lines that he was taking. |

Wow, he's crossing the other side of the road and everything. He will get killed one day, if he keeps doing that. On top of that, gear doesn't seem to be apparent. *files him into the Darwin award category*

I think he just isn't trained good enough, he keeps cutting lanes around corners. He is luck he didn't get ran over.

I truly believe he just entered his driveway too fast and slipped on a pebble. Could happen to anybody.

He was probably wondering who put the pebble in his driveway.

He has no idea how to turn a motorcycle. I'm sure if there were a camera mounted on the tailsection, it would look like he kept trying to lean his body to make the bike turn, rather than just pushing on the handlebars. I'm sure he told his friends he was turning as hard as he could but the bike just went wide.

Check his speedometer just before the fall.
He decided not making the turn way before the entry point, just when speed started dropping from the 80's. IMHO, what happened was that he run out of straight length to slow down. Don't believe blindly in the "you go where you look" myth, because it is just that. Many people do, but I don't. The mind makes (or doesn't make, like in this case) the turn first, then the eyes, the hands, the body and the bike follow in that order. Running any turn wide is due solely to hesitation, and that can only come from the brain. We all have a monkey brain (erect-balance/narrow vision) that we try to educate to become a biker brain (lean-balance/wide vision). The monkey brain is not trusty and always silently observes the rider brain, ............always. When that monkey brain has a reasonable reason to believe that the biker brain doesn't know what to do for the survival of both, the erect-balance auto-computer takes over, ................always (hence you see the rider in the video straighten the bike up and using his legs and arms to slowdown). Any R6 deserves a longer distance than 3K miles before going down.

I'm curious because I only have one year's experience under my belt: I felt he didn't lean enough in his turns. I thought on high speed turns, you're supposed to lean your body to help the bike turn and that handlebar turning is more for slow speed corners? |

Haha makes sense, thanks! Counter-steering is so instinctive but whenever I've tried to read it, I've never understood it and I still can't explain it. But I've tried it in person and it just works. So in this guy's situation, aside from going slowing down, how should he have managed that turn? Count-steered and leaned in? Just trynna get an idea of what to do so I can practice once the snow melts. |

outside inside outside, practice going slower so you're more comfortable and turning in late while staying in your lane (this helps with hazards as well) early turn ins lead to having to chop the throttle, turning in again, as well as running wide on corner exit (which causes the 2 previous conditions)
From there you'll become more comfortable with the bike's steering and get a feel for how it works. *grain of salt, I'm not the best at explaining it, read up kieth code and the other riding control books* |

I didn't quite understand counter steering at first because the MSF instructor kept saying "press" left or "press" right. I kept thinking, "WTF does 'press' mean?" I decided they were trying to tell me to pull....as in pull the handlebar down towards the direction I was leaning. Then I finally realized it was more of a 'push' action.
About the video....if those other riders were his friends, they're horrible friends. That rider was terrible and had no business going 80 mph anywhere other than the highway.
