winterizing 250's

Is there a good way to winterize bikes for the summer.. yup, i said summer.

ill be going to europe for a month of two, and the last time i came back the batt was dead and i had a hell of a hard time starting up the bikes.

i left my 08 ninja for a week, and it was a beast to restart. So hopefully i can get some tips here.

i have 1 battery tender, but i have 2 ninjas. Should i just disconnect the battery, is there a way to use 1 battery tender on 2 batteries?

What is a fuel stabilizer? in portugal i tried to find such a thing i and could not. I did run the carbs dry on most bikes.

If you leave a bike for a year, how do you winterize it. I have bike in Europe which i use in the summer.

Get the stuff called stability marine formula from auto zone and follow the directions. Disconnect the newest battery and charge the oldest.

I don't see why you couldn't charge them in a series...or is it parallel....

I think leaving it for a year would be the same as for the winter. But of course when you take it out you change th fluids after that long.

If you are going away for a couple of months, get some Star Tron Fuel Treatment for your bike here in the U.S. (sold at Walmart, Auto Zone, Advance Auto and most auto part stores and small engine shops.) Make sure it gets into the carbs.

For your bike in Portugal you may also be able to find Star Tron or Motorex Fuel Stabilizer. Since those bikes are stored longer, it's best to drain the carbs and tank dry.

As for your batteries, make sure they are in good condition before leaving them on a battery tender for such a long period. Also make sure you have a battery tender that's up to the task of long term charging, meaning that it has automatic shut off for voltage, temp, and power surge. I'd also take them out of the bike. Try to get a good charge on the weakest battery first before storage. It should last a month or more before it is critically discharged (providing it's in good condition). I wouldn't bother if it's a battery that's already got issues like being more than 4-5 years old or does not get regular charged during routine maintenance.

Even though you're only going away for a couple of months, it would also be a good time to go over some Winter Storage Tips for the summer as well.

in portugal i could not find any stabilizer at all for the fuel. I did top off the gas tank. Removed the battery, drained the carbs, put it up off the ground. Greased up parts. Changed the oil and filter.

But its always a pain to get it started after so long of not riding.

When you get there, you may need to order some. They do have it, just maybe not in the area you are in. Many may use fuel stabilizer in their boats.

If plain gas sits too long it loses it's energy, which may be one of the reasons for the hard starts. Fresh gas is always the best thing to use.
