Re : R&G Aero Crash Protectors Kawasaki ZX250 Ninja 250R '08

Thanks to the forum I decided to buy this usefully ( essential ? ) item. One thing gets me embarrassed.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250355100370

In item description the seller says "FITS UK MODELS ONLY".
I own an European model, the same ( i guess ) as the ones in sale in U.K., so may be this will fit to my bike...
What do you think?

The only difference that I know of is the European and some Far East models are Fuel Injected where the North American models have carburetors, so unless there is something to do with the carburetors that gets in the way, they should fit all models.

Precisely ! I don't think there is a frame difference.
Steve, what do you mean with "far east"?
As far as I know there two basic models. European ( FI ) and U.S. ( carburetor ) models.
I don't live in far East. It's only 1400 km from you. One day trip.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere on this forum before that these in fact did conflict with the carburetors, and would only fit on the FI bikes. But I'd guess it should work on all FI bikes, not just UK bikes.

Yes, I do hope so...May be kkim and Zail could share an opinion.

@steve - It was a joke! No fence.

Oh, I did , last Wednesday ! No response so far...

@kkim, thank you.
Main question was "is there is a difference between U.K. FI model and Austrian FI model", I guess there is not.

This was the response i got from them a while back regarding the US version:

Hi there

I believe that the ignition coil on non european versions obstructs the mounting point onour crash protector kit.

Kindest regards

Well it seems these should fit to my European version bike. May be the seller wrote the remark "FITS UK MODELS ONLY" because of the potential U.S. customers. To avoid some misunderstanding.

Same here. But if something happens I will regret for non buying them.
They are relatively cheap compare to the fairings and the full insurance.
Since all of you are so kind and polite, may be you could help me with further advice. As you can see I am from another part of the world, where some of the things do not happen as they do your world.
There is no R&G dealer in Bulgaria. My sister lives in Austria, there is no R&G dealer there, as well.
I am still waiting my last fives purchases from eBay, for about 200 us.d., but it is obvious that I will not received anything.
To be honest with you, I am afraid to buy something expensive, which I will never get.
Is there a smart move which i miss? I do not think eBay is safe place to buy from.

Why don't you buy direct from R&G? As for e-bay, you can always protect yourself using pay pal. I use a credit card through pay pal for the second layer of protection.
Good luck!

Because most probably I will not receive them. It means 45 days waiting....then claiming...and so on...

I guess I will have to live without crash protection.

I'm pretty sure R & G will ship to Bulgaria - if not try

http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk

Beware though the R and G kit is pretty heavy so postage will not be cheap .. if you can't get them shipped PM me as I may be able to help - they are a really good kit (saved my fairing when I dropped bike the other week!) R & G are really busy and a bit rubbish at replying to e-mails but their products are excellent...

If you get the kit and fit it make sure you have a mate to help and a jack at hand - when you take the engine bolt out to replace with the R & G one you will need to put the jack under the engine to stop it dropping!

If you need to know anything else let me know

Thank you, Zail !
My biggest problem is not receiving the items, due to bad postal services. Could be Royal Mail, could be ours... I was thinking about sending a courier...but it would be much more expensive. What is the approximate weight? Does it exceeds 2 kilograms ( 4 pounds ) ?

hmmm.. I see your point.. Royal Mail in the UK are normally good but it's a long way... Courier would be really expensive... I reckon they weigh at least a kilo if not more! .. I know they were heavy in the rucksack by the time I had ridden 20 miles to my mates house to get them fitted!

Yes. I don't questions sellers act of shipment, the problem begins in further level. Border crossing may be.
I am a franchising partner of one the biggest courier companies in Bulgaria, we do have a kind of representative in U.K. , but he is located in London.
So...I will pay with Visa, registered in Bulgaria. Do you think that R&G, could ship to London ( different address ), and then my colleges will handle it.
I red somewhere that most of eBayers send only to verified address.
I am not so sure what that means, but I suppose the one from the card.

I'd call R & G and see what they say about shipping to London before you pay on your card - if they won't then try Busters (the web address I sent you earlier...)

And yes, I think you are right about the ebay verified address...

No Zail, it's to much !

I was planing to call them myself, but they don't answer to my e-mails and my private messages in eBay, so I decided that it doesn't worth it.

Bogdan,

I looked up Sofia, Bulgaria on Google Maps. Wow, my respect for your Ninjette dedication just went up a few notches! Since you mentioned that your sister lives in Austria, I thought you're sort of close to there. Not quite!

Because I was curious, I looked at R&G's dealers to see how close one might be to you and I saw Moto Market in Thessaloniki, Greece. Google maps says that's about 300km from you.

Now the part I don't know about is:
  1. How easily can you get down there?
  2. Is crossing the border a total hassle?
  3. Is importing something across the border a total hassle?
  4. Are Bulgarians and Greeks on "friendly" terms?
I'm sure that I'm probably oversimplifying some important details, but I'm curious if that could work.

In any case, I hope that you can find some way to get your R&G protectors soon.

Bogdan,

I just saw your messages with Zail.

There are 15 R&G dealers in London. Maybe your representative could walk in and buy them?

Just a thought.

It's the first time you here about Bulgaria, isn't it?
Don't worry, I've never heard about Indio, CA.

Actually you've just follow my steps. I have done all the research .... except finding their site.
Respect !

Sofia - Thessalonнki is about 370 kilometers. Border crossing is not a problem since we ( both ) are members of the European Union.
Many bikers go there to buy spare parts. It is cheaper. We may be a poor country, but are prices a high.
So... it could be done. About 750 kilometars..probably for one day ( my biggest concern) , fuel expences...may be toll taxes in Greece, food , coffee, drinks.
It would be much more expensive, with the biggest benefit - the adventure, and the pictures which I can show to you guys.

Not a problem, I've met many people in Los Angeles that've never heard of Indio!

I've certainly heard of Bulgaria, but I had to check the map to remind myself where it fit in.

Yes, this is the final and most expensive option. A 100 dollars extra.
It is not reasonable, is it?
If nothing else could be done, I will buy it that way.

Ah.. an adventure to get your crash protectors - excellent Much better than getting them delivered by post - and we look forward to the pics

Or the London dealer option.. and delivery via your courier company? See, many heads makes light work of all problems - what a good forum this is

R & G are an excellent company - but they are so busy that e-mail response can be rubbish - they are much better by phone (I know - I've just had to deal with them to get some bolts replaced!)

Let me know if you want me to call any of the UK companies for you - it will be free for me to do it and I guess will cost you?

Today was a hard day...I had an incredible job crisis... and it got worst...I finished my usual job about 9 pm, and I realized that I am not able to drive.
Even my hands were shaking a bit...mi mind was confused...so I decide to wait a bit to get calm...
I red some threads here....had a chat session with a friend on Skype...It was getting late about 11,30...so i decided to leave. Under different circumstances I would not drive, but I had to get back the bike.I warmed up the engine...smoked a cigarette with one of the maintenance guys...Locked the doors...and sat on the bike. I was on the sidewalk, where I always keep it, so I had to surround two pins ( like small columns ) and turn to the street.
I have no idea what suddenly happened, may be I lost weight control turning to the street...and the bike start to fall.
Somehow I step on ground... with the bike may be at 45 degrees to the street, giving a lot of throttle ... but ( thanks god ) squeezing the clutch with the other. So here I am ( 65 kilo's weight )...half on the sidewalk...half on the street, trying to hold 160 kilos bike at 45 degrees from the ground.
Dark street...no one there to give me a hand....I got paniced....but somehow managed to reach the emergency switch, and stopped the engine....Don't know how I lift it back...especially seeing a cab coming toward me...
If I had not squeeze the clutch ( and old reflex from my previous bike - there was the rear brake before ) it could be much worst.
So I had to wait 10 more minutes to calm down again...and went home.
What the lesson for me?
I drive car since 1988...Even was a driver in the army. Thought I had enough experience in concentrating... Well, not at all.
Today I lost a concentration for less than a second....I could have fall on the the street and the cab coming from down the street could've hit really bad...

Thank you all for reading...
Be happy !

Glad you're ok! I dropped my bike a couple of weeks ago - managed to pick it up somehow! I think it is the adrenaline makes you strong... You probably strained some muscles lifting it though so try and take it easy for the next couple of days

You would have to relocate the ignition coils(both sides).

I also nearly dropped my 250R in the first week once. Also had it at about 45 degrees, and barely managed to lift it back up. And I also revved the throttle when that happened, but luckily had the clutch pulled. With a slightly heavier, bigger bike, I would've dropped it. (I dropped a 600 cc Honda Hornet a couple of times when I was learning to ride on it - couldn't hold it at more than 25 degrees or so).

Bogdan, are those crash protectors easy to install? What tools does one need?
