Plug and play garage door remote for all year ninjettes!

Hi Everyone!

I have been able to make a plug and play garage door opener. It attaches to your high beams. Installation is simple. On my 09, I removed the two seats, placed the remote box in the trunk and fed the wires to the front of the bike. Unplugged the high beam, plugged the kit into the high beam bulb and plugged the high beam harness (bike side) into the kit's harness. The remote piggybacks off the high beam as a trigger. To program the remote, you just follow your opener's directions on how to program your remote. For my door, I press the purple button until the light come on, then turn the high beam on. This programs the remote. I can now flip on my high beams and open my garage door. The nice thing is that installation is easy with no extra modules needed like the flash 2 pass. It took me longer to remove the seats than to install it.

I will have 3 kits available depending on your opener. Your opener will either have a green, red, or purple program button. Most newer doors have the purple button. The openers will work on any bike that has H7 sockets or 9003/hH4 sockets.

So, who wants a Group Buy? Normal price will be $75/ $80shipped. The green kits cost more because the remotes cost more. Green button openers are really old and parts aren't as easy to come by. GB price as follows:

Green kit $70 shipped.
Purple or red kit: $65 shipped

I'm not sure about international remotes since they might use a different feequency. These kits are for chamberlain/ Liftmaster garage door openers. They have a good success rate with sears/ Craftsman, but not 100%. I will offer refunds if they don't work.

Link to original page on YouTube.

GB

Please put your name in this list. I will need to order parts and make them. It may be 2 weeks for some parts to arrive. Money will not be collected until the units are ready to ship. I will order parts as soon as I get 10 confirmed purchases. If you buy more than one, I will deduct $3 per additional unit.

Please list if you have a pregen or newgen and what color you need.

1.

Yeah I'll take a video later. I don't have a pic of the finished product since mine is just the prototype. I'll take a pic of the product once I build a production piece. I've been on the forums for a while and I've had pretty good feedback on my other products

What happens if lets say you have your bikes high beam already on (as if you started it cold but stalled) and you restart the bike?

The garage door triggers because your lights come on.

So no chance of this working with a KOSO since the high beam flash changes the back ground color (at least when your sitting still)?

How often do you change your background color on the koso?

Well I don't intentionally but when it registers 0 mph and the same crank and stall scenario happens.... the color changes. Then you have to cycle thru all the other colors to get back to your choice color. I really wish it could just be set to one.

It only happens if you leave your high beam on. I generally commute with my on so it is on more often than not.

If you're really interested, I could take a look at making a kit to install on the horn. That would eliminate the high beam/ koso issue.

Now that sounds more interesting. Might upset the neighbors occasionally since I a Stebels horn but yes I would be willing to wait.

neat idea. i would be interested, but that sure is an expensive garage opener! can't see myself spending that much money for a garage opener. i also have a koso gauge and high beam switch would not be ideal. would turn signal switch instead of the horn work?

This may sound stupid but... Why not wire the high beam input for the koso to a relay? It would be a spdt relay, one output to koso gauge and the other to door opener. The coil would be power from alternator output like the head light. So when engine is on and high beam flicked, door opener works, engine off and koso gauge switches colors. No need to bother the neighbors.

Turn signal wouldn't work. It turns the lights on and off a bunch of times. Sorry you don't like the price. I figured my time making a Plug an Play kit was worth something. Since it seems I was the only one really excited about this, I won't bother selling it.

I like the idea of using the horn for this instead of the head light. I'm a lot less likely to switch the horn on and off than the high beam (besides I have a headlight modulator).

As I understand it, the new openers use rolling codes (predictable random numbers). The garage door opener "guesses" the next 255 codes that your opener will transmit. That way if you hit the button when out of range, it'll still work. Each time you successfully open your garage, the receiver guesses the next 255 codes the transmitter may send. If you hit the button more than 255 times when out of range, your door won't open when you get home. So what happens when you ride with your high beams on all the time? Does the remote keep rolling thru codes and get out of sync with the receiver?

Bonus Tip: Try pressing the unlock button on your buddy's car remote 256 times away from his car.

I've tested this for 2 weeks. I commuted 20 minutes to work with my highbeam on and the remote sending a signal. I got home and it opened right away.

It looks like the horn just uses spade connectors right? I could knock off $5 since the headlight harness doesn't need to be used.

That's good to know... it must send one code per press... wonderful news.

Isn't it obvious....

Wire it through the brake light but before any modulators and such.

I considered that as well. I was concerned for people who have steep driveways and end up braking a few times before they get into the garage. For instance, I brake once before I turn into my driveway and another when I get into the garage. If my dog came running out at me or something else that caused me to brake again, it would cause the door to close prematurely. Keeping it on a switch that isn't part of the motorcycle controls makes it safer. It might work if I ran it off the rear brake switch though.

Yea, that is what I was thinking. You could put in on the front break if you can get the controller software to recognize a double or triple tap activation. Then you wouldn't even have to hold the brake.

Just to update. I tried to get it working with the rear brake switch and it doesn't work. The switch completes a circuit and there's no way for me to get into the switch. I could make one that works when the brake light comes on, but that would work any time the brake light activates. This would cause problems for people with brake light modulators.

Thanks Alex. However, one could also say, if I had one, I would buy a garage.
