2008 Street Fighter Project
So I had a little crash last year, and ended up breaking just about all my fairings, crunched up exhaust, broke off my headlight/gauges, snapped my right rearset in half, slightly twisted my forks, and put sticks through the seats. Needless to say, the insurance totaled it out. After verifying that the frame, fork (after loosening the clamps and untwisting it), engine, wheels, etc. were not damaged, I decided to keep it and make a Street Fighter...ette out of it.
Pretty much done, but still trying to decide if I'm going to make custom fiberglass covers that attach on the tank, and clean up that top/front area a bit, or just remove those mounts, smooth and repaint, and turn in the black plastic leg guards to make them a bit more flush. Either way, just took it out for it's maiden voyage today, and I'm liking it. Position is way better with the clipons, and the exhaust is fun as hell. (Though I pretty much need earplugs to keep my ears from ringing, even with the silencers in, and it doesn't have the low end grunt it used to, even it it does sound like it. But once you get the tack up a bit... phew!) Gauges are awesome, seat is worth it, and I've got some getting used to with the mirrors. But I think they'll work out as well. http://www.flickr.com/photos/felletbrazing/8439982030/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/felletbrazing/8438892859/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/felletbrazing/8259585771/ |

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'd thought about eventually powder coating the rims white, but wasn't keen on cleaning them every weekend. Paint matching them might work a bit better on that front. Once I figure out the front tank area, I may end up doing a full repaint anyhow. Who knows... I just need to get some miles in again.
psych0hans - The light is a LSL with a new(ish) designed bracket. You can get them here: http://www.streetfightersinc.com/Headlightkits.htm It's the first one, called the "GSG MT Headlight" Although, if you're putting them on stock '08 forks, you'll have to figure something out for the small diameter stanchions. They sell it as fitting down to the correct (I think I remember it being 37mm) size, but the company does not make them that small. It just comes with rubber to take up the size difference. I custom made and epoxied some shims out of aluminum sheet to take up the difference, not stick out and look dumb, and not wobble around like the rubber would have. Clamps on great now. to me it seems the headlight is a little low on the forks. If you could get it higher up, closer to the Koso's it would like better IMHO. Either way, you've done a great job.
