Lifting the rear via dogbone/links question.

Good day, im planning to drill a hole on my stock dogbone about a 1cm gap between the stock hole to lift the rear of my bike, it seems that my bike is lowered without a reason. Tire is ok, my rear shock is ok too and i put it on the 5th level to acquire additional height but it seems it is still low and my balls are tired of the freakin bumps. My question is, is it safe or will it work if i have a backride?. Planning a 3 to 4day trip out of town ride btw. Im newbie here.thanks for the answers.

Hello John, it's good to meet you.

If I'm understanding you correctly, your rear suspension has too much sag and bottoms out on bumps. Raising it won't change that, it'll just make it higher when it bottoms out. You didn't say what year 250 you have, and since this post was in the general discussion category, I can't tell, but if it's a pregen, you can pick up a stock shock from a newgen 250 and get a lot stiffer spring. I did that and don't have any more bottoming out problem. It was $25 with free shipping from eBay. Combined with a pair of stiffer front springs from Sonic, the overall suspension was greatly improved.

Don't just drill a hole, take some measures and get your current "sag" numbers. Enlist some help to get the proper springs in the front/rear (may be easier to replace the shock vs new spring).

I know you're new but take this and RUN with it... "Great riders can do amazing things on good suspension and crappy tires, but the whole bike feels like crap with sloppy suspension, even with the best of tires."

Tis the season...

go to a bike night and enlist the help of some track riding vets to help you sort out your suspension. You will get you bike fixed up in a better way and make a few new friends to boot.

You can always come back here too, plenty of experience to be tapped into.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the inputs and suggestions. I got a ninja 250fi 2015 30th anniversary edition. Btw this is what i did, i drilled a new hole on my stock links with 6mm gap(hole to hole). I didnt got the chance to measure the bike before i adjust the links. Now the bike stands amazing,i changed my rear tire too, same size. Im 5'10 and sitted tip toe on my bike.

Yes, that's my question too, if i was not mistaken it happened when im on 3to4day ride, i gota backride and some luggage then we passed a big hole but i manage to contril the bike. Then after that id noticed that there is something different on the bike.

Low because he's tall ! I had the same issue but cured it with longer shock, um Ohlins
