Plumber tipped my bike with his van.

I was working in the office and the plumber comes in asking if it's my bike outside, came outside ready for the worst. There she was, laying on her side crying. Picked her up, called the cops to get a accident report. The plumber was real nice about it, probably because he knew he had to finish what he came here for and didn't want me to get nasty with him. Luckily he has insurance, left fairing is damaged, left blinker is damaged, clutch lever is damaged, left clip on is bent, my windscreen broke, my light housing cracked, my clutch pedal is bent in, left side of tail is damaged, left mirror is damaged. I'll have to look over it more when I get home from work, i'm still here for another 30 mins as i'm typing this. The one time my bike falls over and it's not even my damn fault. I purposely park in the middle of parking spots with my bike almost out to the trunk of the cars next to it so people see it and the guy backs right into it and says he didn't see it. The funny thing is, he had to have drove past it, turned around, and then looked right at my bike where the spot he was trying to park into was to even get in the position he was in. Going to call his insurance as soon as I get home, my dad has the report because he works right down the road so I had him come over in case the bike wouldn't start and needed to be towed.

SO YEAH, merry Christmas to me. At least it still works though, and it's my only mode of transportation. My dairyland insurance covers rental though, would it be wise to call them or just avoid contacting my insurance unless I have to?

Dang that sucks. Rental coverage is usually done with you paying up front and getting reimbursed by which ever company is paying you. You might as well tell the guy's insurance that you need a rental and make sure they'll cover you.

Good advice and you're right about fronting the cash. The last accident I was in (I got rear ended) I didn't get reimbursed for the rental for almost a year. Kind of sucked.

The two insurance companies I dealt with paid for the rental up front because they work out special rates with rental companies. When you talk to an agent, tell them you need a rental and they'll likely arrange it all for you.

Yeah i'm probably going to call their insurance tomorrow at work if they don't call me in the morning and try to get everything situated. It just pains me to have to ride it around the way it is, she looks so ugly now .

That sucks man. BTW, I've never paid for a rental up front, or at all with Allstate. When the claim is filed they make you an appointment with Enterprise. Go in and pick up whatever car you want that is within the budget you have for the coverage. Mine is like $900.

O wow! I'm sorry to hear this mate! Hopefully everything gets sorted out quickly so you can get the bike back to how it's supposed to be! I agree with Moto though, since it's your only source of transport, get the bike fixed enough to that it's able to be safely riden! The cosmetic stuff can wait for the check. But ending up with a bike even worse off and you in the hospital isn't worth waiting for!

Make sure you get an estimate from the dealer. When I got in an accident, I had to pay for the estimate, but was reimbursed. A dealer will find every little part that has the slightest scratch or bend , and include replacement and labor in the estimate. This will probably net you the most compensation.

When I call their insurance should I just tell them I want the dealer to inspect it instead of having them send somebody out or do I do both and if the dealer is more make them give me that instead? I'm sending the photos to my e-mail now as we speak so i'll upload them in a minute.

Also, thanks Motofool! Fortunately though nothing is damaged enough to hinder riding except for maybe the clutch pedal since it's bent in a bit but I've already sorted that out.

I've always only had to pay for the deposit and the insurance companies, either mine or theirs will handle the rental fees. I get my deposit back when I return the car, it's kind of a hassle but it's better than paying upfront for the entire rental and then waiting on a check to get mailed to me.

I'm thankful I get to park my bike inside my machine shop everyday and not outside. Here's a thought, how about parking your bike deaper in the spot and placing an orange cone at the end where they can see it first. I know my initial response to this would be "why should I have to do that, the mother ****ers should learn how to open their eyes" but we all know far chance of that happening any time soon.

At our main buildings I can easily do that, in fact I park along the building away from the parking spots. Yesterday I was at one of other locations filling in for somebody and there really isn't anywhere to shield yourself like I can at the other building.

When you're used to everything being like new condition it stabs your ego every time you look at her though. Especially when you ride it and everyone tries to understand why your windscreen is broken :/. I'm hoping they just opt to replace all my parts that are damaged instead of trying to paint anything, It'd be a waste of time and money plus my bike didn't have a scratch on it till dumb dumb "didn't see it" so why should I have to deal with a paint cover up.

Called his insurance yesterday, the plumber never reported it to his insurance or his manager didn't, made my claim and got called back today from my assigned claim handler. I should have called his insurance the day of so I could get this inspection done quicker, I have to wait until Thursday for their guy to come out because of the holidays and look it all over now.

Screw them for every penny so, replacing each damaged piece should be enough to total it & get a shiny new 636

That's what i'm thinking is going to happen, and i'm kind of hoping it does. I love my little ninjette but now when I go to trade it in if they don't total it that accident is going to show up on the VIN and they'll know it has been knocked over before. The plan was to hold on to her until the summer and trade it in for the 636

If I had the time and money for track days I'd definitely hold onto her but I'm a student and work when I'm not on campus. The plan has always been to get the 250 first because I wanted to make sure I would be able to handle a bigger bike properly as well as actually enjoy riding around on a motorcycle as my main source of transportation. I know a lot of people that started big regret not starting on a smaller bike since it's easier to learn everything on. Don't get me wrong, the 250 is a great bike all around. But when I see all these new features on the zx6r like ABS, Traction Control, and power modes I think it'd be a great bike for me, I can put it in low power when I'm commuting to get some good mileage out of it and when I go around riding for fun just put that bad girl to full power and turn traction control to the lowest setting to enjoy everything the bike has to offer, not to mention I live in Florida so I will get a lot of use out of that traction control in wet weather conditions and ABS is a no brainer for many reasons. I look at it this way though, I've put over 8k miles on the bike myself and that's more than a lot of people in my area will do in years with one bike so by the time I go to trade in i will for sure have gotten my full use out of it . I'm sure when I start rolling in cash I'll get a 250 again to mod the crap out of for track days so don't worry!

As for the accident and it's status the insurance sent out the check last week I'm pretty sure it's going to be around 2 grand, there were some revisions that had to be made on their end before they sent it that would reflect the total so I'm not sure on the exact amount. I ended up putting my OEM wind screen back in, bent the shift pedal back out, and I'm going to attempt to straighten the left clip on tomorrow and see if it's still strong enough to leave once it's straight. The bar end and clutch will just get re sprayed with some black rattle can. Going to order a new front left signal from the dealer because the one on amazon will take a month to get here o.0. As far as the fairing and left rear cowl goes I'm just going to touch them up as best as I can, there are no cracks on the plastics and shelling out all that insurance money for new plastics isn't going to get me much more on a trade in later so I'm going to pretty much be holding onto most of the cash.
