New member from kansas city

Greetings all!

My name's Matt, I'm 24 and from Kansas City, well, an outlying suburb of KC called Lenexa. I commute daily downtown for school at Rockhurst University where I am studying philosophy, theology, and french. It has been fine driving my car, but I'm tired of paying over 350 a month in gas, so I decided this is the right time to buy a bike. I haven't purchased one yet, but after reading reviews, researching, going to the shops that are local to me and sitting on quite a few, I decided on the Ninja 250 as what I'm looking for.

It looks like there is a great community here and I'm looking forward to learning both what to do and what not to do (IE: crashed subforum).

I've been a lurker on the site for a while now but finally have decided to take the MSF, purchase a bike (soon), and start posting.

My MSF is scheduled for May (YIKES), as that is the soonest available class that is not already filled or on a waiting list. In addition, my fiancee is going to be taking the class as well... She seems to have caught the ninja 250 fever from me. So we're both looking to purchase bikes.

Neither of us have any experience on motorcycles but we do mountain bike quite a bit, so at least we know we can balance

Anyways, like I said, looking forward to posting on here regularly, and hopefully getting to know some of you in person.

I'm looking at used bikes, but am not really sure what to look for when determining condition, so I hope you all won't be bothered by me posting deals and asking for input.

This sticky thread at the top of the marketplace area has a good run-down on what to look out for when checking out a used bike. Hope you and your fiance find some 250's you're happy with soon!

The bike seems to be in good condition and the seller seems to know his stuff (which is always a good sign), as to the price, it's all relative...I bought my '09 for $2,150 @ 800 miles, all she needed was a new tank and a rear tire. What I'm driving at is, you can either choose to bide your time for a better deal or you can jump in and satisfy your hunger. (fyi, 3 grand for these bikes is the usual asking price...after all, they are reputed to maintain a high resell value)

That's what I was beginning to notice. What is a reasonable offer for the bike do you think? I'm pretty sure he has it posted on a local sport bike website for 3100, and has had it up for sale since January. I was thinking of offering 2700.

Yeah man, just make sure you communicate your seriousness in making the purchase, I doubt he'll ignore your offer if the bike has been up for grabs for that long. I never was any good at haggling/bargaining, so I can't offer any advice, good luck mate

I gave 3400 for my 2009. it had 180 miles on it, perfect condition. I had to drive to fort scott, ks to get it. The guy bought it for his wife to learn on and she was scared to death to ride it. It sat in the garage for two years! I saved a lot of money from buying new. just don't rush into anything.
