Who all is interested in a "Rain Riding Video Thread" from me?
I ride in the Seattle area... been riding all my life dirt and street, and endorsed on the street since early 90's. Take a MSF refresh almost every year, even a few track classes. I've done several bad weather courses, ridden more than my share of x-country miles in the Marines and although I am NOT a jerk-know-it-all, I do a lot of motovlogging and am WAY more than happy to show you guys that there is nothing to be afraid of in the rain, sleet or even some light snow, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A SPORT BIKE.
I can use one of my Ninja 250's, a Buell, a MV Agusta F3 (it has TC and ABS, so kinda cheating), pretty much whatever you want to see. I can go through how to prepare yourself and your bike for the day, how to ride the knees vs. grips, where to concentrate your placement in lanes, how to increase your visibility to other operators, road hazards, following distance and car considerations, and balance braking effort or traction. Let me know if there is any interest. We ride in the PNW year round. The winters here are like 40-degrees and if it ever did snow, the little 1/4" drop melts in an hour. It takes a lot of time to produce one of these videos, but I'd be more than happy to do it if there is a need.

Yes, please.
Although, to be fair, it's not like anyone is going to reply: "Nah, I don't want you to make a motovlog about riding in the rain! That is so not what I want to watch. And I don't want to learn more about safe riding." |

I don't know if you can blame yourself for target fixation... it may not have been prudent to try to go inside the crashed rider, since it would have meant you had to tighten up the turn. I choose to think you did the wise thing and avoided him to the outside.

Thanks coach.
Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, but I think I was on a trajectory to make the turn without a problem.....but wouldn't have the great footage of #1 son biffing it. I think it's the only time he's been down on the track. This was the first time at the track after we got the 250's, and we weren't gonna let a little rain dampen our day, and we had the track mostly to ourselves.

Well, imagine if there had been a slick spot on the track that caused the crash, and you tried to pass inside #1 son and crashed too. Now you have the chance of smashing into him. You were there and know best what happened, but I still say that from what little I know from the video, what you did was probably the safest thing.

Do it! I'll take all the advice I can get. I only had to ride in the rain once, coming home from work at night. I was and still am terrifed of it. Still thinking of getting some battery powered Christmas lights to wrap around me so driver's on the interstate don't try to run over a black bike at midnight. Better yet, can we wire it to look like a UFO?

Ooh, that video. I can't wait to ride in the rain again as soon as it gets wet. Rain rides aren't a lot of people's favorite but it's always a fun time for me as long as it's not so rainy that it's too dangerous. Just learn to use that rear brake and ease up on the front and it's a good time.

Not had much rain lately, but meanwhile they have dug up the city street (all lanes) in front of where I work for the last few weeks to lay new lines underground and I'm getting great experience driving the Ninja through the rocky construction zone in sand, gravel and dirt where the street USED to be (the whole thing is dug up) while dodging large random holes every couple feet, cones, steel plates and backhoes. Experience levels are also gained in the dark with the street lights out. Did I mention I'm a beginner? LOL
I should make a video of this, hahaha. |

Haha smart! How about I do NO knee-drags anywhere. I can't help that the city decided to accelerate my learning curve. I'm not doing it because I want to, but it's either suck it up or don't ride at all for the next month or two. I'm just saying the chance for a "what not to do" video clip is in the mid-high success rate range. LMAO

WOW so today it finally rained after FOREVER without any rain. I'll see what I can do about putting something together.
Also, I haven't even read any of this thread. I'll get caught up, eventually!
