Is this important?
I noticed today a bit of metal hanging off my ninja 250. I ride it all weathers and i think this piece has rusted and snapped. The question is, is it important? What is it? and can i fix it myself?
It seems like a bracket for the exhaust. I've attached a photo, hopefully its clear enough. |

yes it is a bracket holding the muffler in place... the muffler is attached to the midpipe with it but it won't go off since it is still being held by the passenger footpeg bolt...however you must fix it becuase it gets a lot of vibration there from exhaust gas pulses
you could find another piece in good shape in salvage or have it welded, reinforced with some small metal plate...

I may be wrong, but it looks to me that that is the bracket that holds the heat shield on.

I think it is the clamp the first poster mentioned. It does wrap all the way round and under the heat shield. The item i linked to from ebay looks like it, but im not sure what size to buy or if it is the right part. It does look like it though. |

Man that thing looks rusted lol... do you store it outside? Doesn't seem like a little rain riding would cause so much rust.
Do you have the pregen or newgen?

if it is a clamp and you want to know the size, get some string and measure the circumference of the pipe.

Guys is this bracket really important? I'd like to avoid having to spend money to replace the heat shield. |

Not sure what the UK pricing on that is. It will probable rattle a little without that bit but i dont think its the end of the world if its not replaced.

That was only one of the shields i saw on ebay. Do a search and you can probably find something local and in good shape. Good luck.

I'm just glad I could help! I just swapped out my old muffler, so it looked familiar. Good luck in your heat shield search!
