Switching tire compounds (all bikes)
I just ordered a Michelin Road Pilot 4 rear tire for my other bike. The tire coming off is the original OEM tire. The front OEM tire still has a bit of meat on it, so I opted to save cost by waiting to replace that one.
Is there a consensus on changing 1 vs. 2 tires when the tire types/compound are changed? I know it would be optimal to change them both together, but is it safe to mix until the front also needs to be replaced?

OEM tires usually suck, and I've replaced brand new ones after 500 mi for that reason, so I would recommend getting something better on there - especially the front.
The front will wear a lot less than the rear, so you may be able to get 2 rears for 1 front. Good tires are a must. You won't regret it. |

@csmith12 makes an excellent point, it will only perform as well as the weakest link, personal I've always done both at the same just to keep everything up.

The worst new tires I've ever had on a cycle were OEM Suzuki Dunlop 220s. That's the ones I replace at 500 mi.
