Recommendations for new tires
Hello! I have a 2011 Ninja 250R and I noticed cracks on my tires. I think it's time to replace them, especially before my next long distance trip.
Any recommendations for new tires? I do a combination of local and long distance riding, and I don't ride nearly as much as I'd like to. I don't need the sportiest tires out there, but performance is nice. I live in Iowa and don't ride in the snow. I try to avoid rain as well. Thanks!! |

@NevadaWolf travels a lot and goes long distances. She might be helpful.

Long answer later today when I get home.

Welcome, and it sounds like it's time for replacements for sure! Husband and I just put Shinkos on my bike and I'm quite happy with them.

Ok, longer answer.
Been through Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIs, amazingly sticky tire and awesome for track or intense canyon carving. Down side, rear lasts an average of 5000-6000 miles. Killed too many of them to ever use them again for long flat travel. Been through Bridgestone Battleax BT-45s (I love the name: Battle Axe!) good tire, great in rain (east coast monsoon frog choking rain) worked great across country. Rear lasted about 9000 miles. Now on Michelin Pilot Streets. Selling point - 15,000 miles! Gone through two sets and they are like glue on the road. Handles rain great, snowy slush was stable, and doesn't balk at hard park dirt road. BUT once you get beyond the wear bar, the utter lack of traction is terrifying especially on sandy ice. But, you really shouldn't let it get down that far for safety reasons. In this case, don't do what I do. If you plan on high miles, I truly believe the Michelins are the set to invest in.

NevadaWolf - Thanks for the super info! A friend of mine recommended the BT45's but they don't come in the sizes standard for my bike. So, I will go with the Michelins!
Thanks everyone for your input and warm welcome! |

I run 110/140 on mine and have no troubles so if you can't find 130's, look for the next size up.

Michelin street pilots, i'm portly and heavy handed and they handle good and give very good mileage.

The PSRs are a few bucks cheaper at https://www.jakewilson.com/ (and another source of them, if nothing else). I currently have Pilot Powers on my aftermarket wheels, but PSRs would be near the top of my list in stock sizes.
S20 Evos and Diablo Rosso II's are supposed to be great performance tires, but don't last nearly as long. If you don't plan to ride as many miles before your tires age, one of these might be a good option too.
